Scanner.exe Windows Question

I just installed SBS 7.6.1 on a new laptop running Win7 x64. I've run into a weird problem. If I do a clear and rescan SBS finds nothing, but it does clear the DB. If I then do a scan for new and changed it finds all the music just fine. I've set all scanner logs to debug and what I think I'm seeing is that scanner.exe doesn't know where my music is. I've got my music folder set correctly in both the SBS "Control Panel" and in the "SBS - Settings - Basic Settings" page (no iTunes). Here's the scanner.log that leads me to believe scanner.exe doesn't know where my music folder is (it is local, no UNC "D:\SBS Music");

Squeeze Box Server starts then stops on D-Link DNS320

Using fun_plug 0.7 I installed SBS 7.7.1 on my D-Link DNS 320. When connected via PuTTY I can start the server but it stops after a few seconds and I've no idea why.

On my NAS the fun_plug install added a start up script in /ffp/start which I can run with "sh slimserver.sh start", to see the status I can then run "sh slimserver.sh status" and this shows the server running with some pid
If I'm quick and I re-run "sh slimserver.sh start" I get a message saying it's already running but then, within a few seconds the 'status' switch shows the server is not running.

There don't appear to be any log files created.

I modified the slimserver.sh and added --d_server to the args but again couldn't see any errors or logs.

Can someone help me get the server running

LMS Scanning Issues

$

I had a Sonos until I discovered it has an internal limit on how many songs it can catalog - In my case, it couldn't handle my 51,000 track collection. So I bought a used Duet to try to get around this issue.

The Duet is firmware 77 and is connected both wireless and CAT5.
My music files are stored on a Synology Diskstation DS413j DSM 4.2
I also have a PC always on that is 32-bit Win7, Dual-Core E5200 2.5Ghz 4Gb RAM
My collection is in the format \\diskstation\music\artist1, \\diskstation\music\artist2, etc

I tried installing the LMS package ( 7.7.2-007 ) on the NAS device first. The scans were fast. Too fast. It showed all the folders as 'empty' and only indexed a couple hundred songs. I fiddled with some settings ( Turned off all plug-ins, set new music scan to 100,000... ), still nothing.

In frustration, I installed the latest 7.7 LMS on the PC. The scan takes forever! In fact, it was relatively fast up to around track 25,000 and then it would take an hour to scan another 50. I moved all the subfolders and ran a complete new scan on the empty library location ( I have tried both a mapped drive x:\music and the UNC \\diskstation\music... ) , then I moved a few folders back. The first time with the letter A, I selected 'Clear Library' scan. That worked for the A artists. I added the B folders and so on, rescanning each time for just 'new and changed'.

This is still taking forever. I assume it will run through each song and check if it has changed and that time is adding up every new scan. Still, I'm afraid to dump all the folders back in the music share and scan because I can't wait for days to scan this collection.

Any advice greatly appreciated - I would love the NAS to do the work, but have yet to find a solution to that. My next stap will be to uninstall / reinstall on the PC...

This looks as if something was wrong with the command line passed to run
the scanner. Or the parsing of the command line: it's splitting up program
arguments in the wrong places.

Before we continue to debug an outdated software version... could you at
least try to reproduce in 7.7?

And then give us some more information about the setup: where is LMS
installed, where is the music (local vs. mounted drives etc.)?

Progress bar update is delayed on track change

$

I've noticed some strange behavior with the progress bar (that shows how much of a song has played) on my Squeezebox "Classic". I first noticed this in April 2012 (sometime on or before firmware 137).

If I skip to the next (or previous) track while a song is playing, the audio changes as expected, and most items on the display update, including the track information, but progress bar (and perhaps the time) stay as they were for 2-3 seconds (and then change to indicate the start of the track). In other words, there is a delay in updating the progress bar and time when changing tracks.

In older firmware/server versions, all items on the display change (as expected) at once. Note that I am not certain this is a firmware problem (could be the server, I suppose).

The behavior slightly changed around Feb, 2013: when I advance to the next track, the progress bar momentarily goes to a different position (not zero, but perhaps 5%, but this varies), then in a second or two it jumps back to zero. The music of the next track, as before, starts immediately, the same time as this momentary display of a higher-than-zero level.

I originally reported this as a bug here: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17952 I have not seen any comments on the bug.

Anyone know what is going on? I posted this over at forums.logitech.com as well - not sure which is a better place...

TuneIn Radio fails to parse custom stream

Naim Radio http://37.130.228.60:8090/ successfully added as custom URL on iPad TuneIn App and added to TuneIn Favourites.

(From TuneIn web page, downloads the link which opens in iTunes on Mac Mini)

(Same link added to Favourites via Squeezebox.com also works fine on the Touches, but I would like to get this working with the TuneIn Radio SB plugin/app where I have all my other radio stations grouped.)

In Logitech TuneIn plugin/app on SB Touch, link is listed as a URL under Favourites but when selected just gives message "Failed to parse".

Running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.8.0 - 1369215084 @ Thu May 23 01:01:57 PDT 2013 with TuneIn Radio plugin V2.0.

Any thoughts on why this fails to parse?

Bad file descriptor error with JazzRadio

As I said it's been available for a few hours only - no announcement has
been made. So there's little surprise you didn't use it before :-).

But it might be an option for you, as the stream you're using is aacplus,
which can't be played on all players, needs transcoding, which probably
causes the complications you're seeing. The app is streaming mp3 directly
to your player.

Performance issues with 75% full QNAP TS109 - but only when Windows PC is on

$

My QNAP 512Mb TS109 disk is 75% full (yes I'm ordering a newer 2TB model so hopefully my problems will go away), but it runs OK most of the time. However, when my Windows PC is switched on (the QNAP folders are mapped as Windows drives), the NAS starts intermittently dropping off the network, iPeng half the time can't see any players, and sometimes streamed music gets interrupted. Using PuTTY to log in and running top shows that smbd is using most of the CPU (used to be the access logger but I turned off access logging) The admin Resource Monitor shows 100% CPU for extended periods.

Sometimes it stabilises and works again (Resource monitor shows CPU dropping back to 20% or less)

So apparently, there's something on my Windows PC which is accessing the NAS a lot? I've disabled StreamtoMe, Coolio or anything similar, and I can't think of what else might be hammering the NAS in the background. My working files are elsewhere, I just have music and photos/videos on this NAS.

What tools can I use to find out which process or service on my PC is causing smbd to hog the NAS CPU?

Alternatively, there are older posts about LMS misbehaving with large numbers or files or disks getting full - are all those problems now solved? (I'm on 7.7.2 r33893)

Sorry if this is wrong bit of forum - should I have posted in Linux?

Internet Radio & Staff Picks

Given most of the 'Staff' are no longer with us (???) - this menu item is a bit of a dinosaur, surely? Is there anyway to remove from the menu?

Or, could it be replaced with something else - say, User XYZ's Picks -- where users could submit their radio favourites list.

Help understanding whats breaking

I have:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 14 05:49:01 PDT 2012
Hostname: ReadyNas-MSC
Server IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Netgear RAIDiator - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: i686-linux
Perl Version: 5.8.8 - i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 4

I have a couple of problems that seem to be getting worse

1. Server crashes, scan hangs on restart
2. Adding a new file folder+music onto the ReadyNas from Windows PC via network and then trying to get server to play files via Music/Folder/file.mp3 gets "Server Refused Connection" via Web UI; even though other folders/files in same directory.

Here are a few sections of my logs which indicate an error, anyone want to suggest whats broken and what I do to fix/circumvent

Same with the Music Info plugin. It has disappeared from the list.

SQBX Server Playlists Empty after MEdiaMonkey

$

Hello:
I am using Version: 7.5.5 - r32671 of SQBX Server on a WHS Box.

I was using WMP to manage all the playlists, and everything was fine. I wanted better library management, so I installed Mediamonkey. I saved each playlist in windows media player as a m3u playlist into the same folder as the original playlists:

\\MemoryPrime\Music\Playlists

I then deleted the wpl playlists, leaving only the m3u versions

I can play/manage/edit the new playlists via mediamonkey on the PC.

However, now none of the SQBX's can find any of the playlists (Duets/Touch).

I can navigate to the playlist folder in SQBX server webinterface by going to: Home / My Music / Music Folder / Playlist
and I can see all the playlists in the webinterface:

A test playlist.m3u
Amazon Music.m3u
AmazonTestPlaylist.m3u
Dance.m3u
DMB.m3u

BUT, when I click play, nothing happens...

If I Navigate to the Playlist Folder via:

HOME / Playlist

there is nothing there at all, none of the playlists are appearing.

If I set the server to rescan, it says it scans all 21 playlists that are there, and counts them down,

Playlist Scan (21 of 21) Complete 00:03:19

But nothing shows up on the server.

I don't know anything about m3u playlists, but the syntax seems correct:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,03 - Down.mp3
\\MEMORYPRIME\Music\Amazon MP3\Jay Sean\All Or Nothing\03 - Down.mp3

#EXTINF:0,02 - Shattered [Turn The Car Around].mp3
\\MEMORYPRIME\Music\Amazon MP3\O.A.R_\All Sides\02 - Shattered [Turn The Car Around].mp3

What is mediamonkey doing wrong? why can't i find any of the playlists when converting to m3u?

Thanks!

ADDENDUM:

I shut down the WHS v1, restarted everything, and still the playlists are empty. The SCANNER log file shows: (Some songs are missing, but others are not)

I added a fix to 7.8. Please update to the next nightly.

Additionaly you might want to make sure the dimensions of the artwork
requested are integers. Otherwise the server side resizing won't work.
Line 294 should be something like this:

var maxHeight = parseInt(Ext.lib.Dom.getViewWidth() * 0.40);

"connection failed please check server settings" message on my softsqueeze

I am using media server 7.7.2 on windows xp and have 2 SB3's that work fine.
On my desktop I have installed Softsqueeze and when it starts I get the message in the title.
I'm not sure what to check or change to get Softsqueeze to work ?
The host name is correct and the port is 9000 and Java is up to date
Audio is set to "primary sound driver"
I am at a loss as to what to check next

Any suggestions ??

How to set a preset using Squeezeplayer & Squeezelite ?

I know that setting presets is a PITA with the Touch, etc. using the Beta Features.

I recently was able to set up presets on Squeezeplayer by editing the MaponAction.lua file, and then using the beta features. A double PITA.

However, using Squeezeplayer to control a Squeezelite player, I can't find any way to set up presets for the Squeezelite player - using the beta features route doesn't trigger any setting or play routines. The screen flicks but there's no overlay message.

Anybody out there with a solution?

Server suddenly stopped working

Hi,

I have used LMS for ages and am pretty happy with my solution. It runs on a netbook and I use 3 Iphones as players with Ipeng. A few days ago it stopped working. I have not installed anything nor updated the system so honestly I dont know what has happened.

I m not able to find the server and even on the netbook I can not play music using the LMS webbrowser. I can see my music but I can not play any of it.

I have tried to clear cache, uninstalled and installed again but nothing works.

Please see my log below.

Do you have any ideas what the problem is and how to solve it?

It seems like I hae an UPNP issue? or is it an IP issue?

Thanks for your input.

Jeppe

Help: Stretched album art on Controller App (Android)

Hope someone can shed light or help me resolve this problem:

I use the Logitech Squeezebox Controller App on my Android devices, a Nexus 7 tablet and an Android phone. I have some album art on my LMS 7.8 that are not in the 1:1 aspect ratio. When these album art are displayed on the Squeezebox Controller App on my Android devices, the album art is stretched to fit the 1:1 aspect ratio of the App. I really want the album art to be padded or fitted, so that artists' faces are not distorted! (see stretch versus pad versus fit: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph..._side_resizing)

The non 1:1 aspect ratio art retain their original aspect ratio on my LMS web interface and on my SBTouch interface. So this problem with stretched album art only happens on the Controller App.

Anyone else using Logitech Squeezebox Controller App and what are your experience with album art on the App?

Thanks,
Leon
