WMA stream - bitrate lowering?

$

I listen to a new WMA stream which uses a very high bitrate codec (for no real reason) and I want to listen on a cellphone, with a limited data plan.
Is there a way to have LMS make the bitrate lower?

As an added twist, I use both squeezelite and the iPeng player. squeezelite has WMA support, iPen\g doesn't. I can use the WMPlayer (uses mplayer) plug in to get WMA on the iPeng player. Unfortunately, it ends up using mplayer for squeezelite as well, which makes the audio quality there poor.

Thanks!

Network Test on wired sb3 player showing slow performance (< 75% at 1000kbps)

Hi

I have the following LMS server:

Logitech Media Server Status
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.3 - 1375965195 @ Mon Aug 12 03:09:39 PDT 2013
Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
Perl Version: 5.14.2 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 3

I have a wired-only SB3 which I am using for testing and I see Network test at 100kbps shows 75% or less. But I need 100% as I am streaming FLAC music.
My SBBoom reports similar when on a wired or wireless connection as does my SB2

My SB3 is plugged into a Netgear gigabit switch and so is my server, and that has a gigibit NIC in it. So the network between them is simple and fast. There other devices are on this LAN, but nothing major. I have disabled most of the Squeezebox plugins and I now have only the BBC iPlayer plugin to speak of, but still the Network test shows this slow rate. My setting for the database is on High performance, as recommended, since I have > 1 GB RAM

Can anyone confirm that I should be seeing 100% on the 1000kbps setting? I'm sure it used to show 100% even on the highest 2000kbps setting last time I looked. Also, are there any other network performance tools for the LMS that I could try?

Everything on my network seems ok, and my server looks fine too (load average is 0.1) so I cannot understand why the Network test is showing less than 100% for the 1000kbps Network test.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

LMS woes

After several years of running LMS7.7 on WHS, things suddenly went wrong a couple of weeks back. It started with the nightly rescan failing part way though, and then, after a power failure, LMS wouldn't run at all. It should run at start-up, although that's always been unreliable, but has always started manually in the past. Now, it states LMS is starting for a few minutes before reverting to LMS has stopped. I tried re-installing it, but I get an error message asking me to check if I have sufficient priviledges. No amount of re-trying clears the error. I then tried upgrading to 7.8 but got the same error message. I'm accessing the server via Windows Home Server Console.

I'm not really bothered about the update side of things - I just want it to work!!

Any help gratefully received,

Peter

My Music categories in LMS 7.9

1. I notice that LMS 7.9 includes lots more categories in "My Music". I'd like to use "Classical Music by Conductor" but don't know how to produce a tag for the mp3 file. I am using mp3Tag as an editor. I see how to add tag categories within mp3tag, but what is the name of the field so that LMS will recognize it?

2. I have installed the same LMS download on two computers. On only one of them does "Classical Music by Conductor" appear. Both computers run Win 7.

3. How do I eliminate some of the categories such as Audiobooks?

LMS 7.8 Rescan stuck at discoverying files/directories

I recently switched my server from my NAS back to my Windows Vista Server (Q6600/8GB) for performance reasons. The NAS version was fine, but very slow doing searches etc.

I installed 7.8 over the old server version and it seems to work fine. Much much quicker. I've got about 44,000 tracks on a USB drive off the server, and the initial scan takes about 2 hours IIRC and everything seems fine.. The frustrating part is that re-scans for new and changed media files never finishes. This means changes never occur and I don't want to do a full rescan every night.

The only entries I can find are in the server.log and it just says it's starting the rescan of files/directories. The scanner.log is empty (c:/programdata/squeezebox).

I've just kicked off a block level scandisk of the harddrive but had seen mention that cache.db and artwork.db can be an issue. Is it worth deleting these and rescanning?

I've removed all non-needed plugins.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

LMS access to /etc/passwd

Hi,

I'm building an apparmor profile for Logitech Media Server 7.8.0 and I noticed that the squeezeboxserver process is accessing /etc/passwd and /etc/nsswitch.conf (both read access).

Now, I know that /etc/passwd does not contain any passwords and it is world-readable by default anyway. I also know that some other common applications access the passwd file, too. But since "less is better", I'm still wondering why LMS needs to access these files.

Could read access to these files be safely denied or would it cause LMS to not work properly? (I haven't tried.)

Thanks and kind regards,

Timo

P.S.: When I'm finished building my apparmor profile, I'm happy to share it on the forum, if anyone is interested.

Players can't see LMS, but LMS can see players

Hi all,

I'm trying to get ubuntu LMS working on freebsd in a jail, which is, I know, an odd configuration. I'm having some difficulties.

LMS 7.8 appears to be running ok:-
- I can access the web interface, and the web admin interface
- I can see my players in the drop down in the top-right of the web interface.
- I can play audio from the web interface, and it comes out of the speakers of the device.

However, the devices themselves (2 radios and a touch) cannot see the LMS at all - when I go to my music, i get the standard "you need to download LMS" message.

I presume my issue is related to networking but i'm struggling to understand how I would be able to see the players on the web interface, to stream to the players when pushing audio from LMS, yet not see LMS in reverse from the players.
I don't understand much about what networking is going on behind the scenes.

How does a player discover that there is a running instance of LMS on the LAN?

thanks for any tips

Major Corruption ... or can I fix it

Hi,
I have around 2000 CDs ripped onto my 7.8 server. Recently I started adding some LPs, VinylStudio. All I did was to create the folders of flac files (one per track) together with the album art and copy the folder to the music folder on the server and then perform a rescan.
Something has clearly gone horribly wrong. When I view some of my CDs via the Media Server I see the wrong artwork, sometimes the wrong track names, even repeated track names. The music behind the wrong names is always correct (in that it is in the right order and is the correct piece), but somehow after my recent LP additions there has been a major failure.
For example Joan Armatrading is shown with Jacques Brel CD cover. He is listed as joint artist with her on one CD.

If this is not patchable, is there a baby guide to how to rebuild the database for a fresh start... preferably one that does not involve recreating my CD files.

Thanks for any help which this might conjure up

LMS 7.9 refuses to pick up my new batch of music

$

I have used LMS for years. While scanning would have certain problems every now and then, this is the most troubling one I have experienced yet.

I just wiped my NAS and re-installed LMS and re-transferred my library of music into the NAS. Everything is done fresh and I did not import any db or settings. LMS scanned and I got all my music. Added a batch of music later in the week (all flacs with full metadata, organized in artist/album/tracks folder structure). New tracks did not turn up. Then, I tried the usual suspects.

1. Did rescan everything. The whole library turned up again but not those new tracks
2. deleted cache.db and rescanned. Same results
3. Re-save those files using mp3tag and rescan. Same
4. Deliberately changing the metadata by adding a 0 to the album names and re-save, then rescan. Same
5. Copying those files to another location on the NAS, deleted the original files, re-save the files using MP3tag, and moving those files back into my media folder. Same thing.

I will probably save and re-save those files with another computer (hopefully changing certain metadata and date stamps such that LMS may see them) and replace the files in my NAS with them and see how things go. Other than that, any other suggestions?

Thanks.

LMS on ARM and Debian Jessy ???

Hi there.

I was wondering if there are any plans for LMS to be made compatible with Debian Jessy.
Jessy will soon become state of the art on ARM based server machines.

The main issue with LMS for ARM is that there is no Perl 5.18 support for ARM. Downgrading Perl to 5.14 is a major hazzle.

The good thing about Debian Jessy is the much more efficient gcc-4.9, in comparison to Wheezy.
The newer gcc code performs better on ARM and also supports more optimizations.

Cheers

Players not appearing in SqueezeCommander list !

Hi

I have recently moved over to a Samsung S3. This runs Jellybean 4.3.

Have installed both Squeezecommander and Logitech app.

There is a weird issue now - players are listed in both apps for LMS but missing from SC list when player is connected to MySB.com.

SC says it's connected to both LMS and MySB.com but no players are listed under the MySB.com tab.

Things worked OK on my old S2 (running JB 4.2).

Any ideas what is causing this ?

Thanks

Sound from Touch and Radio randomly stops with 7.8

I'm having this weird issue where the sound on my Touches and Radios just stops for no reason. Sometimes the sound comes back after a few seconds, other times I have to restart the song to get the sound back. All of these units are wired (not using Wi-Fi). It seems to be worse when I have two SBs synced. It happens on radio streams and with local content. I'm messed around with the performance and network setting in LMS but continue to have the issue. I never had this problem with 7.7. What do I need to do to really troubleshoot this? I'm not sure which logs to look at or for that matter, activate. Thanks.

Pandora port on Synolgy LMS

I have LMS running on a synology box. I recently installed an Adtrap (ad blocker). The issue is that now I can not play pandora stations. I can see my stations, but can't play any of them. I get a message from the squeezebox that it has been blocked. I don't know what ports to open on the squeezebox to enable it to work. Do you have any ideas?

I also can't play my plex from outside the home, but that's a post for another location.

Thank you

LMS 7.9 vs. Readynas Pro i386 compatibility issues?

$

Hello,

LMS 7.9 won't start on my Readynas Pro i386. The server log is showing this "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting." over and over again indefinitely.
I tried to upgrade from 7.8.1 which works totally fine.
Downgrading to 7.8.1 works too.
Is there a higher debug level mode I could set in the server.prefs file so I could get more info about what is happening when it crashes?

Thanks

using the CLI to get Currently Playing ID or URL?

$

Hi,

Not sure I'm in the right place - but here's what I'm trying to do:
  1. Get the metadata of the currently playing track (artist, album etc...)
  2. Especially get a URL of the coverart file.
  3. When the source is SIRIUS or PANDORA, get the URL to the current tracks CoverArt.

I can do #1 and #2 when its part of my music library by:
  1. "playlist title ?", "playlist album ?", etc.. (or "playlist title 0 ?")
  2. I then send a "playlist path ?" then taking the parameter returned and passing it to SongInfo:
    "songinfo 0 100 url:<path_from_above>"
  3. This is turn returns with an artwork_track_id. I then push this into http://server:9000/music/artwork_tra...over.jpg...and voila I have the albumart!

(p.s. if there's a simpler way, please let me know!)..

Now, when I try this with Pandora,
1. I can get the basic metadata as above (current track only)
2. I get a path like this one: pandora%3A%2F%2F343698135286677704.mp3
3. I pass this path into songinfo and the thing gives no response at all.

H-E-L-P! Must be missing something obvious

Oh its LMS 7.8.

SIRIUS XM - retrieving the real cover art?

$

So the sirius plugin on LMS doesn't seem to return actual art for the current track - but instead returns the channels artwork (i.e. coffeehouse).

There is a way to get it (the SONOS player does it and the Sirius web interface does it).

I notice some interesting tags returned by CLI - such as remoteMETA:HASH(0xXXXXXXX) and an id:-173515124.

I wonder if there is some url that can be called with a parameter to return said artwork?

Anyone have any ideas?

Pandora works a treat by the way.

Cover Art of currently playing track

Hello,

I am trying to get the cover art of the currently playing track to display in a remote interface I am setting up. I am using an ios/android remote control software called iRule. I am able to pull out all the info I need via a json http post, and that is working great. The issue I am having is the remote does not support variables for urls. So even though I can query the album artwork url, I cannot use it in my interface. I was going to write a script that does the query, downloads the art and saves it locally with a file name that never changes, so I can pull that from my remote interface and refresh every few seconds. Before I go through that process, is there a way to view the artwork of the currently playing track from a static url? I can then cause my remote to refresh that image every few seconds. I am running version 7.7.2 - r33893 on a synology NAS device.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Yosemite Beta 4 and logitech squeezebox media server not starting

I wouldn't be surprised if they updated Perl... They did the same with
Mavericks: running fine in an early beta, then updated Perl and broke LMS.

What would give "perl -v" (run in a terminal window)?

I'll update mine tomorrow.

Yeah, that might be a solution for those who've been running earlier
betas. But the Yosemite release version most likely will not come with
two Perl versions. I will have to bite the bullet and build those libraries.
