Weird problem accessing music files on WD My Cloud NAS

Hi everybody. I recently got a 3TB WD My Cloud network-attached hard drive and moved my iTunes library onto it. I then installed Logitech Media Server 7.7.3 on a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. At first everything seemed to work fine, but after rebooting the computer I found that my Squeezebox Touch could no longer see my music files even though the network drive was up and perfectly accessible. Initially it seemed that the only fix was to clear and rescan my entire library. I tried it with and without iTunes integration and I tried running LMS in safe mode, but nothing made a difference.

Then I noticed something strange. When I went to add a new media folder on the Library tab in the LMS Control Panel, the mapped drive letter for my WD My Cloud was showing up with a red X over it, as if the drive were disconnected. The X remained present even if I clicked on the + next to the drive letter to display subfolders (which, strangely, were showing up normally despite the X). Then I right-clicked on the drive letter for the My Cloud and clicked on Properties. This caused the red X to disappear, as if I had just connected the drive (by the way, instead of actually adding a new media folder, I clicked on Cancel to return to the LMS Control Panel; when I did add a new folder as an experiment, this initiated a rescan of my entire library--a two-hour process). At this point my Squeezebox Touch could see the music again! What is going on here? There has to be an easy fix, right? Or am I going to have to go through this every time I start LMS?

I should add that sometimes clicking on Properties is not enough to reconnect the drive from LMS's perspective, but if I do Properties for a folder residing on the drive the red X will instantly disappear.

 I'd appreciate any insight on this.
