Surface, LMS 8.1 and ad hoc wireless connections

In the past, I've used LMS installed on a netbook as a server source, connected to a Boom as the player through an ad hoc wireless connection. Worked like a charm. Very useful while on vacation in sunny climes.

I'd like to do that with my Surface 2 Pro, running Win 8.1.

Anyone got experience running LMS on the Surface? Other observations?
