Problem with hiding lossy duplicates

$

Hi all, I have started to rip some of my music in flac as well as mp3. I have checked the option in LMS for Hide lossy duplicates if lossless track is available.
I have had a few problems insofar as LMS sometimes still includes the mp3 after scanning. I eventually concluded that the tagging has to be idential between the 2 formats to always avoid this.

However, have one major issue. On one album so far the track length of approx 50% of the tracks is 1 second longer on mp3 than flac. The LENGTH tag is read only and LMS seems to interpret this as a different track and shows the mp3 as well as flac which is a bit of a pain. I tried to edit the track length in a binary editor and it still shows up in the tag edit as 1 second longer.

Anybody got any ideas.

LMS 7.9.2 sometimes hangs after waking Windows 10

When I wake my newly installed Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, sometimes (maybe 1 in 10 times) LMS seems to pretty much hang:

- the SB3s show “Cannot connect to server”
- hovering the mouse over the system tray icon shows “Running”
- open Control Panel shows the initial Logitech Media Server splash screen for 30 seconds or so, and then it disappears
- opening the web page in Chrome says “Cannot reach this page”

I have tried reinstalling the latest nightly build (1541400404 5 Nov) which made no difference.

Any idea why this may be? I have run LMS without this problem on various Windows installations on the same desktop PC without any problems. I am of course happy to send more logs or whatever... All SB3s are wired in, and everything else on the PC works perfectly!

IP addr assigned to LMS

hello,
i have been looking into this issue for couple of weeks now and feel i'm at least zeroing into it.
here's the setup:
- LMS installed on a raspberryPi3B+ along with squeezelite and jivelite
- media is local at /mnt/usb
- ethernet connection and wi-fi via a mobile hotspot

problem:
when hotspot goes away, My Music fails attempting to connect to "raspberryPi"

observations:
- as expected, i have no problem connecting to LMS from a local browser via http://192.168.1.23:9000/
- BUT it has the old ip addr assigned by the hotspot
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1530185314 @ Thu Jun 28 14:19:19 CEST 2018
Hostname: raspberryPi
Server IP Address: 192.168.43.252
- yet, via browser, all works including viewing My Music but not at the raspberryPi itself (jivelite)

questions:
- how does LMS gets its ip addr assigned? can i make it static to local eth0 addr, 192.168.1.23?
- since all components are local to raspberryPi, why should ip addr matter at all?
- lastly, how does brower access work as expected but local access does not? very frustrating to say the least...

any insights would be greatly appreciated...

Intermittent problems with recognising bitrate for live radio streams

$

Hi,

I a running a nightly LMS 7.9.2 on Windows Server 2012R2. My players are all PiCorePlayer 4.0.0 based RPIs (I use the ffmpeg-based squeezelite there)

I have an intermittent problem with some streams of radio programmes being played at the wrong speed (e.g. 44.1 kHz MP# stream is decoded as 32 kHz). I've previously mentioned it in this thread, but life intervened and I never followed it up.

https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...l=1#post918743

The problem mainly occurs on the TOK FM stream here

http://gdansk1-1.radio.pionier.net.p...l/tuba10-1.mp3

but it has happened on the BBC radio 1 or 4 streams (for BPA: I'm outside UK, playing the DASH streams, so I presume this is not quite the same thing).

I'm attaching the logs with player.source set to debug for opening the above stream (unfortunately, the correct speed was being played here). I'm also attaching a log for when I tried to play BBC radio 6, just in case there is some thing there.

As far as I can tell, is that LMS wants to transcode the MP3 to MP3. My squeezelite command string in PCP is not special, so there shouldn't be anything funny going on:

Code:

/usr/local/bin/squeezelite -n "Sypialnia" -o hw:CARD=sndrpihifiberry -a :::: -m 02:0F:B5:10:4B:DB
The RPis have a Hi-Fi Berry sound board installed, one Digi+ and one DAC+, again they have the default settings in PCP. Most of the time the playback rate/speed is correct, so this is probably not the issue. In any case the outputs should support all rates involved here (I know that the 32 kHz stream was incorrectly output, because it was recognised as that my the amp connected over optical)

Another possibly related thing is that setting the radio station stream as an alarm frequently fails to work: it just comes with a backup signal instead.

Thanks for any hints!

Finally installed Windows 10 - which version of LMS?

So I'd been happily running my two Touch devices from my Win7 Ultimate machine for a lot for years. I was using LMS 7.6 I think. I decided to finally step up now that I'm on Win10, but I'm not sure which version of LMS to use. I see the community has continued development past 7.7, but when I looked at the Changelogs for 7.9 I saw something that said 7.9 will not support mysqueezebox.com. Is this so?

Unable to get a full scan under freshly installed linux ( debian and Mint)

I experienced lots of strange errors and decided to reinstall my server. I first tried linux mint ( mate) and ended with a fresh install of Debian 9 ( more stable)
Everything works as expected execpt the scanning of the approx 70K mp3 and Flac files.
The scanner sees the files and starts scanning.. it "stops unexpectedly "" and sometimes the scanner log is empty.
If there is something in the log ( mostly after a rescan at wich i manually deleted the db files) there a a lot of errors on some files but not sure if that should matter.

Problem playing flac files on Slimp3 (but only when sync'ed)

$

I have added an "Old School" Slimp3 to my very stable setup.

LMS is on a Pi and the Slimp3 and the Duet are wired to it.

Slimp3 will play all tracks consistently when not synced. As will the Duet.
When sync'ed, I can play mp3s with no problem, but flac files are troublesome and usually don't play. (I'm only saying usually as I think a couple of times I've skipped forwards or back and a flac has successfully started. 95%+ unplayable.)
BBC iPlayer is also rock solid (whether sync'ed or not).

Would love to some steer as to what to investigate!

Protect Library Views?

$

HI all

My case is: I have released songs in one LibraryView and unreleased songs in another.
I dont want certain players to be able to use the "unreleased" library.

The only way I know to do that is to run a second instance of LMS. Probably a headache I guess.

Is there another way?
I do have *some* programming skills so maybe I could eventually hardcode MAC requirements?

Any clues?
Thanks!

BTW if this is to be a feature wish, maybe such a restriction would be put into a .restriction file in the library root.

Every time I start up my vortexbox (VB), I have to log into my VB appliance and manually start LMS using a Linux command on putty. How can I get LMS to autostart when I turn my VB appliance on? I am using VortexBox SW Version: 2.4 and LMS version: 7.9.1 - 0.6.20170928git1508251793. Can anyone suggest a fix?

ReadyNAS BBC Iplayer Extra lack of IO::Socket::SSL

$

Hi,

I am running LMS 7.9.1 on ReadyNAS Ultra 4 with Radiator 4.2.31 and BBC Iplayer 1.6.0 and BBC Iplayer Extras 2.0.0.

The BBC Iplayer works fine for both live and catch up. But the Extras return that error for anything I choose: "There was an error loading the remote feed for : (Can't connect to https URL lack of IO::Socket::SSL: bbc…..programmes/a-z/by/e/player.json)"

The json query returns results when used on browser.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Noob wanting to change old pc into LMS Dedicated server. Best solution?

$

I have been a happy LMS/Squeezebox/Ipeng user for 6-7 years. The system has been running on the same Windows 10 64 bit machine all this time.
Since the october 2018 windows update the pc has refused to boot.

I have started thinking about turning the pc into a dedicated media server. I don’t really need it for much else anymore. It would be nice if it could also be some kind of network storage for my laptops, ipad and iphone, but running LMS is the most important thing here. It would also be nice to get rid of the problem with windows updates always changing the IP adress of the pc!

I have absolutely no clue about NAS, servers, Linux and similar subjects but I did build the pc myself from recommended parts when it was new. It seems to me that switching from windows to Linux, FreeNAS and/or somethng callez Amahi may extend the life of the pc hardware. I am of course prepared to replace the oldest harddiscs. I am also backing my drives up to a cloud storage provider.

I do hope someone here can help me getting started because I am so NOT ready to turn to Spotify, Apple or other streaming providers since I have. 3000 hours local music library carefully built up over these last 6-7 years with lyrics and translations to classical vocal music easily accessible from the wonderful Ipeng app.

Thanks for taking time to read this

Hi

I realised that I don't have any local music anymore, although I can browse them via the file browser in LMS.

I tried re-scanning, but no change.

I tried rescanning after clearing the library, also no change. I the log are many strange errors - I attach the log.

any ideas what is going on and what I could do?

How does Advanced Search work?

oh, one more thing: the log file can be your friend. Verify whether
there's any error message to start with.

Start with a simple text search without tweaking any of the additional
controls. Just type a track or album title. And in case you do have
library views, make sure you're not dealing with your kids' library
while searching for AC/DC.

And if you've got a query which you believe should return something, but
does not, you can enable logging for database.sql and post the resulting
SQL query here for our enjoyment :-)

Secure Remote Streaming to Mobile Player

$
0

Hi,

I know this question or similar has been asked many times before, but now that mobile streaming is all the rage with the hip young kids, I was wondering if someone has come up with a solution...

I've been doing some searching and tested 2 other products that allow secure External Streaming- i.e. Tonido & SubSonic, on both VortexBox as well as native Windows installs of both these products.

Tonido is nice because the service proxies the stream (+1 for that)
SubSonic relies on a port forwarding setup within your router (it tries to do it for you via UPNP). Not really a fan of that.

Both of there products use HTTPS, well the SubSonic setup of this is a manual process :(.

Since we all know (cough..) that we should NEVER expose the LMS server directly to the Internet, I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a solution (software and/or services stack) to allow our favorite mobile players to connect to LMS like the Tonido & Subsonic players can.

If it matters, I've also tested encapsulating the LMS servers HTTP stream via 'stunnel', and can get to LMS without issue this way, including the ../stream.mp3 method of playing tunes.

Are there any others options that should be looked at? Mobile apps that setup a lighter weight proxy tunnel, rather than a full blown VPN connection?

Would this take both a server-side component (Could this be done with a plugin?) and would the players need modifications also?

Has anyone overcome these challenges yet?

Obviously, the best option would be something that fully encapsulates LMS, with features like:
  • Proxying of the the stream
  • A frontend login with multiple usernames/passwords
  • Accounts would have restrictions on what the mobile player can do when it's operating in truly mobile mode -
    • Whether it can only control itself or other players
    • Whether is can change server settings/cause a rescan, etc.

I for one would LOVE to have Pippin of iPeng fame build this missing piece, and then charge a small annual fee for access ;)

BUT it also allows you to add folders to Browse Music Folder which would
not be scanned. Some people use this to have a folder for their
downloaded podcasts or whatever, or to "pre-listen" recordings before
adding them to the main library. Stuff they don't want to have in the
library, yet accessible to SB.

Support for Dark Mode on MacOS 10.14?

Yes, certainly possible. Going to happen? Don't hold your breath... if
we wanted to support this, we might have to give up backwards
compatibility with older systems.
