LMS 7.9.2 - Media scan terminated unexpectedly (Scanning Progress)

And that's from a failed scan? The file indeed simply ends without
neither success nor failure message.

The last file logged is

/audiodrives/audiofolder/Bayonne - Drastic Measures - (2019) {WEB -
FLAC}/08 - Uncertainly Deranged.flac

Is that one that got updated?

I prefer to have LMS rescan only when I want it to, but it seems to do it on it's own at random intervals. Is there a control I am missing?

Announce: Storm, a headless player for the Slim Protocol

Announcing "storm" a simple media player for the Slim Protocol.

I know we have the excellent Squeezelite from Adrian Smith and Ralph Irving but having taught myself the Rust programming language I was casting about for a non-trivial project to test my knowledge and decided to write a simple media player based on the Slim protocol. I now have a viable player or, at least, I think I have.

If there is anybody out there who would like to give it a spin I would be very grateful for any feedback. If you do try it please be aware of the following:

  • Storm is written in Rust
I'll be happy to help anyone install the Rust tool chain, it's very easy to get going in Rust and even easier to remove from your system.
  • Storm uses the gstreamer1 API to decode and play the media stream
You'll need to install gstreamer1 dev packages along with ffmpeg and whatever ffmpeg decoders you will need.
  • Storm has a couple of issues which I know about
    1. Playback stutters for a few seconds when you skip forwards or backwards in a track. This is probably something to do with how I am handling gstreamer.
    2. I can synchronise storm to my Squeezebox Touch but not the other way around. I suspect there's something about the Slim protocol I don't know.
  • I'm currently working out how to do a cross-compile of Storm
  • Storm is available at my github account but as this is my first port I'm not allowed to make any links. I'll follow up with a link.

Music File Scan stops

I have a problem on one of my LMS installations: The music file scan stops more or less immediately after having it started. Apparently a database file got corrupted. In the log I find the following:

Installing PiCorePlayer & Squeebox

I'm trying to install PiCorePlayer and Squeezebox, following the official PCP tutorial.

Things seemed to run fine until it got to the Install LMS stage, where it's supposed to refresh the web page again to go on. But it did not.

On the Raspberry screen, the last line says "SMP: failed to sotp secondary CPUs". It seems something went wrong, am I right?

What can or should I do? Start installation all over again from the beginning?

Thanks!

Unable to reach LMS web gui after fresh installation

I installed LMS 7.9.1 on a fresh install of Raspbian Buster. The service is up and running, which I check with service logitechmediaserver status. There are no disks connected to the Raspi and no media should be scanned. However, I can not access the web gui under http://RaspiIP:9000. I can ping the Raspi of course from my Laptop and I am logged into via SSH.

I downloaded the ARM64.deb from here and my Pi is 3 Model B http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Log...Server_v7.9.1/.

I have a second Raspi running in my network, but of course under a different IP since it is another ethernet port. It is reachable via browser. I also use 7.9.1 there.

I read a lot about this problem online and came across the cache problem which does not apply here. I also checked with another browser I never use.

Where can I check if the port 9000 is correct? Is there another reason for the problem?

Missing icons in Radio and Apps menu

This is strange and only seems to have happened recently, maybe after the last LMS update but can't be sure. In the Radio menu the "Staff Picks" icon is missing in both default and Material skins. In the default skin the "Podcasts" icon is missing from the Apps menu. In Material skin the "Sounds and Effects" icon is missing in the Apps menu. On both of my Radios "Staff Picks", "Sounds and Effects" and also "Tunein" from the Apps menu have missing icons.

LMS on Raspberry Pi4

$

Hi

I have been running LMS on a Pi2 for a number of years. Has worked reliably but quite slow to update after adding new FLAC files, and sometimes not quite as responsive as I'd like. I had been thinking of changing to a Pi3, but now that the Pi4 is available was wondering about that.

Should it just work fine on that with most recent LMS version, or are there any differences I need to take note of?

I'm not very Linux savvy, in the past have just followed the various instruction threads.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Sorting Albums by specific MusicBrainz tag "ORIGINALYEAR"

$

Hi everyone,
to tag the files I use a combination of MusicBrainz Picard (for a first exact classification) and Mp3tag (for some refinement and personalization).
Among the standard MusicBrainz tags there are also the original year and date of the first release (ORIGINALYEAR and ORIGINALDATE), ie the date of first release of a work, while the YEAR and DATE tags are used to identify the year and the date of the specific release that is being tagged.
For example, if I tag "Foxtrot" by Genesis from the 2008 SACD box set, I will have YEAR = 2008 and ORIGINALYEAR = 1972.
Well, not wanting to alter the use of these two fields, I wonder if there is a solution to ensure that LMS (actually I use Daphile but it is the same) and the connected clients list the albums by sorting them by descending ORIGINALYEAR instead of YEAR.
Thanks bye.

Organizing folders in Logitech Media Server

I think what you're referring to isn't "folders", but menus, or
categories in the UI. If you want to browse your music the way you
organized it on your disk, use "Browse Music Folder".

Adding song to currently playing playlist issue-playback stops before added track

$

Hi, totally new here and appreciate any help that comes my way.

I am non techie in this area, I use LMS via Safari to control a Innuos Zen NAS, and also use iPeng. I have the same problem with both control methods-

If a song is playing and I add another song to the playlist (not a saved playlist, just what is currently cued), playback stops before the new song is played back.

I've lived with this problem for years and can't imagine it's normal behaviour?

Many thanks

Standby problem with latest 7.9 nightly

With the latest LMS nightly 7.9.2 installed I cannot get my nuc8 to go into planned standby (Win 10 1903). I have installed Server power Control and prevent Windows from standby plugin.
When entering manually ' cmd /C start /B SCPowerTool.exe --standby --wakeup=-60' it enters stanby and awakes as expected.
I am running LMS since 2006 on different machines and never had a single problem with standby.
Anyone experiencing similar?

Problem with Browsing under 7.9.2

I have a SqueezeBox Classic and am currently running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1565627154 @ Mon Aug 12 18:46:07 CEST 2019 under Ubuntu 18.04.1 and have noticed a few issues lately.

First some basic info about my library. It is made up of MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and FLAC files with consistent tagging (ID3v2.4) using the ARTIST tag formatted as Last, First for the primary performer. My default browse mode is now by Album Artists. The library is cleared and rescanned daily. The library statistics are:
Total Tracks: 167,582
Total Albums: 14,380
Total Artists: 8,226
Total Genres: 46
Total Playing Time: 14307:07:53

1. Despite having the option of both Album Artists and Artists under Additional Browse Modes, the only one that ever appears under "My Music" is Album Artists. This has been going on for months, but until recently Album Artists has been useful despite having the tag ALBUMARTIST (or any of its variants) removed from every file.

2. In the last few days (it may have been going on longer) I've found that certain Artists no longer appear under their initial letter when I try and browse by Album Artists. I recently added the Woodstock 50 compilation in FLAC to the library and discovered that the vast majority of the individual artists (as identified in the the tag ARTIST) from that album now appear in the C's - "Ten Years After", "Butterfield, Paul", "Sly and the Family Stone" and others now appear sorted between Chilliwack and Chopin while "Cocker, Joe" is nowhere to be seen under either Album Artists or All Artists, tho he is found if I search!

Are there issues with libraries of this size? Suggestions??

Much thanx for any help.

Plugins updating unexpectedly

Recently I downloaded material skin from github and installed it over the released plugin. When I opened the plugins tab in LMS settings a couple of days later I noticed that I was being offered my previously installed release version as an update. As I didn't want to replace the github version I did not tick the box to update but I did install another plugin. After restarting LMS, material skin had been "updated" to the release version. Surely the plugin should not be updated unless I tick the box to allow it. I am pretty sure I have seen this behaviour before when I knew the latest version of a plugin had issues and I was prepared to wait for the next version but LMS decided to install it anyway. I don't allow plugins to update automatically.

If I search for anything in the Radio menu I get

500 internal Server error

This was working a couple of days ago.
I tried restarting LMS (latest 7.9.2) and no change. Also after restarting LMS Virgin Radio no longer plays and I see

Error. No items found in playlist

Please check your scanner.log (Settings/Information). Did the last scan
terminate correctly? Would you have the Fulltext Search plugin enabled?

Would browsing "Files and Folders" be working (available through the
Addditional Browse Modes plugin)?

Playing cue files with LMS

Ok, now check your log files to see whether there's an issue scanning it
(server.log and scanner.log).

> But LMS refuses to play those large wav files with the tracks inside.

Again: check server.log. Also: wouldn't you get an error message when
trying to play it?
