Web Interface not updating to reflect working plugins.

$

Hi
Yesterday I did a full uninstall and reinstall (deleting all previous files) of LMS. I am now running v 7.9.2 - 1565851052 @ Thu Aug 15 09:08:10 on a HP Proliant Micro Server Windows Home Server 2011 machine. I have successfully installed a number of plugins (eg. BBC iPlayer, Radio Paradise). I can access these from my Squeezeboxes and Squeezebox Boom and indeed from SqueezePlay, but they dont appear in the web interface. This isnt life threatening, just irritating. Any ideas? I did get some warnings about a missing ddl (libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll) when I was installing LMS, but it didnt seem to cause any problems.

Cheers

LMS 7.9.2 on #WIN10 suddenly UI/CL not reachable

I've been running a 7.9.2 LMS build for months unchanged on a (headless) Windows 10 PC.

I have a wide variety of client players, and last night when we went to bed it was working and reachable, this morning, nothing. I tried a reboot of WIN10.

I've turned off the Windows firewall on the LMS server to see if that was the problem. the LMS Control panel says everything is reachable, but I can access via HTTP or CLI. HTTP to 127.0.0.1:9000 on the WIN10 box fails, can't be reached.

I decided not to worry too much about this. And my system has been
running somewhere between 1.5 to 2 years so far.

I'm not sure USB sticks are any more robust than SD cards. Plus you'd
have to deal with moving the cache and logs etc.

Get a backup SD card, copy your configuration, and live with the risk.

Mac behavior when Home folder resides off boot drive

$

Something unusual has affected two Macs: a Mac Pro and a Mac Mini. In each, there are second internal drives where I have moved my Home folder (employing Advanced Options in the Users & Groups section of System Prefs.
Each computer has LMS installed, although it is only running on the Mac Pro at the moment.
I have an issue that may be related to LMS.

At each restart, I log into my user account, but it cannot find any information in my Home folder.
On both computers, it appears that LMS has forced creation (on the Boot drive) of a new folder representing my Home folder drive (named "Home") containing this hierarchy:
Home/jclark/Library/Logs/Squeezebox -- and nothing else.

A user at Apple's discussion boards, where I have posted about this, suggested that perhaps LMS is "hard-coded to look for /Users/yourHomeFolderName/ instead of using the system path to your home."

So I'm wondering if anyone here can comment on that possibility or something related -- so that if it's not the case, I can continue to search elsewhere for a cause.

Players losing connection to LMS?

This morning I had two Radios playing independently. One of them stopped and I found the red wireless icon and it could not connect to the server. I checked the other player and that had exactly the same issue. I restarted LMS and everything is back to normal. Nothing in the server log.

This only happens occasionally but are there any logging settings I can change to see what is happening?

Windows clients opinions

Hi All,

I have been an happy user for LMS for more than a year now, have built a few devices with Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero and squeezelite (some piCorePlayer based, some DietPi based, some with no display, some with LCD display, some with 7'' touch display) and mostly used them with Squeezer.

Totally satisfied by the software and also used SqueezePlay on a PC with a cheap DAC+headphone amp.

Now kids are turning into teens and along with my wife they wish to use the LMS library from a PC as well and things are getting hairy, not from a technical perspective, but from a user experience point of view: kids find SqueezePlay Interface counterintuitive and would prefer a more Windows 10 style interface (both kids have a convertible laptop with touchscreen), wife might use it but she also find it awkward on a PC.

Have tried Squeezelite-X but with little success: it often hangs or has problems and it is evident that it is a web browser in disguise in many ways, so the experience isn't the best possible on a convertible.

Are these the only two options for playing music on a PC from LMS (browing the library and sharing playlists, not just streaming)? Does anybody know of any other client or plugin for well known music players available.

I have tried using LMS from Windows Media Player as a DLNA source (with DLNA plugin installed on LMS) but it is very slow and rarely show all the library. Anyone using DLNA players for PC with LMS who is satisfied by the user experience? What player?

Thanx for any information you might share.

Are there any other Skins for jivelite

Hello
I am running pCP and LMS with jivelite on a Pi3b+ feeding a 7" HDMI/VGA screen. The best skin to fill the screen is
Grid Skin 800x480 but the height is only 2/3 of max. The width is fine. Is there any way to get more height or any
more skins to download.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

If you're using Edge, then this (unfortunately) is a known problem.

But as Edge as we know it is to be dumped soon, this is not going to be
fixed. Please use a different browser for the time being.

"Cannot allocate memory" error

$

When trying to play some types of radio stream (specifically, those from the BBC iPlayer plugin), I get the error

Slim::Control::Request::execute (1888) Error: While trying to run function coderef [Slim::Control::Commands::playlistJumpCommand]: [open2: fork failed: Cannot allocate memory at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Player/Pipeline.pm line 138.]

Other things (other streams, local media, etc) play fine.

I've already asked on the BBC iPlayer thread on the 3rd Party S/W forum and bpa replied to say:

LMS has lost all it's settings

$

My squeezelite-X app stopped playing today and flashed it lost connection to my LMS server. No bother I though so I restarted my server (WHS 2011) running LMS and its come back.

However the music is there but my settings don't seem to be. Nothing in library, nothing in mysqueezebox and everytime I try and enter my login it bounces back timeout.

This could be the death knell for me, I'm not using any players other than squeezelite-X when working in my office. Google Home and spotify have taken over the rest of the house. I do have my receiver setup but I have not used it in about a year.

squeezelite is still my goto in the office for spicefly sugarcube and Erlands plugins as well as Michael's Spotty but I really cannot be bothered setting up again? Anybody know of quick recovery from anywhere? Do I have settings I can copy in?

Update: OK the plugins appear to be there still, but all mine rely on mysqueezebox for licence manager, so that does seem to be the root cause? Will see if it sorts itself out? I can logon fine to the mysqueezebox website by the way.

I just saved a playlist without giving it a name ("Untitled") and I was asked if I wanted to overwrite the existing one. But there was no existing one.

It really doesn't matter, but as it seems to be a bug, there you go. :p

Perl compilation error: $ipn

Not sure where to post this, as I can't tell whether it's a general LMS issue, or specific to pCP, or possibly even caused by Paul-'s latest test version of sbpd-pigpio (which is the only change I've made recently).

As of this morning, on rebooting pCP I've been getting quite a few instances where LMS fails to start. This is in the pcp_boot.log file:

Slimserver is not Running

Rebooting once or twice usually gets LMS to start. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I try to start sbpd-pigpio as a [tweak], but that variable $ipn seems like it could be related to a pin number variable, hence my suspicions, but I have no idea whether/how variables used by sbpd-pigpio could interfere with perl compilation - seems unlikely.

Have I corrupted something with a careless reboot perhaps? Touch wood, everything seems to be working fine now, so maybe not worth any further investigation, but I'm still curious what could cause the compilation to fail 'occasionally'.

EDIT: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1564003588 @ Wed Jul 24 23:53:50 CEST 2019, running under pCP6.0.0-b1 on a Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB.

I tried the cleanup utility (delete preferences and delete the cache folder etc) but this did not help.
Any idea how to recover from this issue?

Thank you!

How can I get "All Artists" to display artists only?

$

Hello,
I have had this problem for a while but I cannot seem to figure out how to set up LMS.
all I want is that every artist in my collection is displayed under "Artist" or "All Artists" or whatever might be in the menu. This must also include artists that are not album artists but must exclude composers or conductors etc.

I have installed the "configure music menus"-plugin.

Name: lmsmusicmenuplugin.jpg

What is the difference between "Gruppe" and "Band"?
What is the difference between "Kuenstler" and "Interpret"?
Why can't "Gruppen" be "Interpreten"?
Why can't "Band" be "Album Artist"?
This is utterly confusing.

LMS 7.9.2 new install on Windows 7 Pro - troubles

$

I had hoped to find a configuration document - but I seem to be looking in the wrong place??

I am running Win 7 Pro and LMS 7.9.2 which installed just fine. My music (19000 wav files) is moved across just fine and I can "see" it in the LMS Music webpage on the LMS PC under 127.0.0.1:9000 - although when I do a rescan it only tells me that 7 and 2 files have been indexed - which I find odd.

But although I can ping the PC with LMS installed (192.168.0.20) I cant access the webpage using 192.168.0.20:9000 - which is what I was expecting.

So far I have yet to get a player attached (I have a Touch and a USB DAC).

So where do I find a configuration document which will tell me HOW to do the above.

I have used LMS for years under Vortexbox - but that system is very old and I want to go the windows route.

Check the system's log files (/var/log/messages) to see whether there
has been an issue on the system itself. OOM or network or whatever.

When this happens, would there still be a LMS process on the system, but
hanging?

That's not possible. That list is rendered from the data stored in the
database. Once you re-scan and that data is changed, the results will be
updated accordingly. There's no history of data. You'd have manage
versions yourself.

Ports 3483 and 9000 Failed?

$

Hello,

I'm having some so issues with LMS for Windows that I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I started having issues with the Shairtunes2 and Youtube plugins not connecting or playing. After a bit of looking, I noticed that under the LMS Control Panel, Port 3483 (slimproto) and Port 9000 (HTTP) both show as failed. In the alerts section it reads:

We've seen that your Logitech Media Server is configured to use a proxy server. In this configuration connectivity to mysqueezebox.com on port 3483 can't be tested.

We were not able to successfully communicate with mysqueezebox.com
This might be a temporary internet issue, or a limitation imposed by your ISP. If the problem persists, please make sure your firewall is not blocking outgoing traffic.

I tried googling to see if there was a simple solution to this issue but could only find people mentioning that port 3483 needed to be opened. I believe that I have the port opened after messing with my router and the Windows Firewall settings, but the issue remains.

As you can probably tell I'm not super familiar with networking, so If someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

My ISP is CenturyLink and I've got a Zyxel C3000Z modem/router.

Please let me know if there is any other pertinent information I've left out.

Thanks in Advance,
Charlie

Playlist entry creating duplicate album and track entry

$
0
0
So, for example, Album 'The Doors' contains a track called 'Soul Kitchen' - listed correctly in LMS
Creating a playlist that includes 'Soul Kitchen' results in no change to original album listing, but (at some point) does create an additional instance of 'The Doors' album, containing a single track of 'Soul Kitchen'.

Have had several trawls to see if somebody else already had the answer so apologies if it is there somewhere, but the closest I have found is the suggestion that this is caused by having the Playlist folder within the Music folder (and hence creating duplicates), which is not the case here.

My Library is on a Synology NAS. I maintain the original library on my PC, it backs up to the NAS, and that is the directory that LMS uses.

Media folder: /volume1/music/XPS2/J/Users/XXX/Music
Playlists folder: /volume1/music/XPS/C/Users/XXX/Music/Playlists

You can see the file paths are different, and in fact clearing the library and rescanning from scratch resolves the problem - no more additional albums, so it would not appear to be the location per se.

Maybe the problem only occurs when the Playlist is actually played? Is it a play count thing?

Can anyone explain what is happening and how to stop it?

UPDATE:
Unsurprisingly, this turned out to be an I.D. 10 T error, but I will explain the resolution in case someone else makes the same mistake.

It appears the original playlist location was referencing the original location of the files (C/Users/XXX/Music) which are still there. I had assumed (yes... ) that LMS would only see files it scanned in the Media folder. It turns out the file locations referenced in the playlists were just added to the Library, and as they were different files in a different directory, showed up as additional, duplicate tracks in the Library.
