Audio stream won't play, trying to understand why

$
0
0
I've been fighting for a while to get one of my favorite streams to play on LMS:

https://s2.voscast.com:8969/stream.ogg

When I try to play the URL the server log will output:

Slim::Player::Squeezebox2::statHandler (149) Error: 00:04:20:29:37:a4: Decoder does not support file format, code 0

If you try to play the stream in a browser, or look at the stream description, you can see that the content type is "audio/mpeg" but the stream seems to describe itself as ".ogg". My best guess is that this apparent mismatch is confusing LMS, though the stream plays fine in my browser, so I'm not really sure.

Even if there's no way to fix this I'm really just curious to understand why it doesn't work, and I'm hoping that any folks here more knowledgeable might be able to help me figure it out. :-)

Squeezebox Touches Rebuffering constantly

I have been using 3 Touches in 3 different rooms for years with relatively few problems but in the last couple of months when I am trying to play Spotify using latest Spotty on LMS 8.00 they very rarely play two tracks in a row without rebuffering or not connecting. There is more silence than music now :-(

Does anyone know why this is happening now?
The wi-fi hasn’t changed and is pretty strong in each room especially the one in the lounge where the router is, but it’s as bad as the others. It’s really getting me down.

Thanks in advance.

Can't access plugins: Couldn't resolve IP errors

I'm building a new HTPC on Arch Linux and have installed Logitech Media Server 7.9.2

I'm trying to add some plugins but when I try to access the plugins page there's a long delay and, eventually, it says:

LMS 8.0: Very strange sorting order?

$

Hello!

It seems I have a very strange problem. I have albums from "Marius Müller-Westernhagen" and "Westernhagen" (He changed the name for newer albums).
When I go into the menu via "Artists", I find the following order:

Madness
Manfred Man
Marillion
Marius Müller-Westernhagen. <-------
Mark Knopfler
...
Mike + The Mechanics
Milla
Westernhagen. <-------
Mungo Jerry
Nazareth
...

Unter "W" I can not find Westernhagen. I have nothing in the sorting Tags in the MP3 files for this artist.
This is an example of a file with all the tags inside:
Name: Bildschirmfoto 2020-06-27 um 23.30.44.png
Views: 40
Size: 34.6 KB

So why in the world is an artist with "W" inserted at "M"? This is the only artist I can find that is wrong.

Touch Friendly Web Client

Hi Guys,

I've been using LMS for years now mainly on raspberry pi using picoreplayer. Recently I decided to stick the server on my main Debian server, which works a treat.

But I have a small pi with touch screen in my kitchen and I like to find an easier way to control the music from that device. currently, I'm using the default web client, which isn't very touch friendly. I've tried to figure out how to install jivelite, but without any success. I'm not a super techie person, but generally able to follow basic instructions, but not come across anything very clear to follow.

Questions:

1. Is it possible to run jivelite on the pi that's not running LMS? which is just running rasbian?
2. Are there any other clients for linux which are easier to setup?
3. Is there a more touch friendly web ui?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers
Matt

You could use the playerpref command (see
http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https:...s/cli-api.html)
to set startDelay or playDelay.

LMS 8.0: Only scanning half the changed files?

$

This is happening with LMS 8.0, specifically this setup:

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.0.0 - 1593258969 @ Sat Jun 27 14:19:11 CEST 2020
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
Perl Version: 5.20.2 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Audio::Scan: 0.95
IO::Socket::SSL: 2.002
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)

I don't remember it happening with versions before 8.0, but it may have.

When I rescan after changing lots of music file tags, the scanner discovers all the changed files but then scans only about half of them -- the progress bar moves incrementally over the first half of the set, then suddenly jumps to the end. If I repeat the scan after it completes, approximately half of the original number of changed files are discovered, and again only half of those are scanned.

This repeats, successively halving the number of discovered changes, until eventually only a small number (like 50) are found, and then those are completely scanned.

I can reproduce this at will:

1. Use foobar2000 to modify tags of 1000 files.
2. In Settings:Basic Settings:Rescan Media Files, configure for "Look for new and changed media files" and click Rescan.
3. In Settings:Information, watch as 1000 changed files are discovered and allegedly scanned.
4. When the scan completes, repeat from step 2 and notice that this time, around 500 changed files are discovered and scanned. Repeat again and see 250 changed files, etc.

In the screenshots below, you can see the progression in successive scans: from 1761 files, to 861, to 411, to 200, to 100. Only 5 images may be attached to a post, but the final two stages were 50 and 0.

Is this a known issue? If not, any idea why it might be happening on my system?

Using Sox to parametrically equalizing I'm losing seek functionality. Could it work?

$

0
I've recently bought a DAC (Topping D10) to connect to my headphone amplifier. I'm using Beyerdynamic DT 880 and I'm quite pleased with AutoEQ values for them.

Now, I used to use EqualizerAPO but that doesn't work with ASIO/WASAPI and... being stupid that way I like the display on the DAC to show the correct sample rate for the file I'm playing.

As such I've searched on the forums and found suggestions to use Sox to parametrically equalize.

I'm using the following in my custom-convert.conf:

#Headphones
flc flc * bc:5f:f4:bf:3e:70
# FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}
[flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t flac -C 0 -b 24 - gain -6.9 equalizer 30 0.43q +6.2

mp3 flc * bc:5f:f4:bf:3e:70
# FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}
[lame] --mp3input --decode --silent $FILE$ - | [sox] -q -t wav - -t flac -C 0 -b 24 - gain -6.9 equalizer 30 0.43q +6.2

I cut the rest of the equalization points to avoid unnecessary length for reading. Equalization works great. But with these lines I'm loosing the ability to seek to a specific point in a track (using Squeezelite-X to control music on my desktop PC).

Is this something that could be solved somehow?
Thanks in advance.

Squeezebox Radio and Google WiFi Mesh dropping connection

Anyone with a Google WiFi having issues with Squeezebox Radio dropping the WiFi Connections?
(My Squeezebox Touch is working ok)

Everything was fine until a few days ago. I can connect to the Network, but it will later drop connection and not auto-connect when the Radio is turned on.

Google did a firmware update a week or so ago to the Google WiFi mesh, and the notes say that it “fixed an issue discovery of certain devices that use SSDP”

Tried rebooting WiFi and a factory reset of the SB Radio and Google WiFi, no luck.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You can't install packages on DSM unless you're an admin, can you?

Installation/upgrade problem 7.9.3

$

Hi, I have been running 7.9.2 on my Ubuntu 18.04.03 LTS system since February, and it has been working great.

I originally installed it from the nightly build package using apt.

Today I downloaded the nightly build for 7.9.3 and first tried installing/upgrading it with dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.9.3_1591161343_i386.deb

There were messages about changing the ownership of the files in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/ from group slim to group nogroup.

The server would not run at that point. /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log updated every five seconds with the message:

2020-06-30 09:36:35 Logitech Media Server died. Restarting.

I tried changing the file group ownership to "slim" and restarted the logitechmediaserver service.

Same behavior and messages.

I removed the package with

apt purge logitechmediaserver

and deleted /var/lib/squezeboxserver. Then I installed it again with

apt install ./logitechmediaserver_7.9.3_1591161343_i386.deb

Same messages and behavior.

Is there a way to find out why the server is dying? When I originally installed under Ubuntu, I had a problem with using an old server.prefs file that was pointing to an old music db location, and when I deleted the old server.prefs the server started and I was able to follow the setup wizard through the web interface. But this time I'm working with no server.prefs file in place (or any other files in the prefs directory) before installing. So I'm stuck. I could really use some more detailed error messages, or a better understanding of where all the LMS files are stored so I can make sure I'm starting from a blank slate when I install.

I recently had a C: drive go boobs up on me. Reinstalled everything including LMS. I cannot find the "Remove Played Songs" plugin. Best way to powerdown Allo player

$

Hello,

I just installed an Allo Digione signature player with Picoreplayer. (And upgrade my first system with that soft too : Rpi4 + Hiffiberry Dac + Pro XLR).

The main player (RPi3B+ with Allo DOS) is server (LMS) and player (Squeezelite). The PSU for this unit is the double power Shanti by Allo.

With PcP is V6.1.0, I see there is no problem to shut down Squeezelite directly, but it seem dangerous to power down LMS.

How do you shutdown the Allo digione signature player ?

Thans for your help

Is it possible somehow to use square brackts in custom-convert-conf?

The transcoding helper framework considers strings in square brackets
helper applications, thus tries to find them on your system and
substitute them in the define command line.

You might have more luck writing a script with all the commands and only
refer the script name in the conversion rule set.

You've enabled logging for some categories with the "keep settings on

"Weird" LMS / / Touch / network / router problems

$

Been stuck on an annoying problem. I'm planning moving from Win LMS to Linux based LMS. For now I'm using a Rpi 3B which I installed DietPi (Debian based distro) on. Also managed to install LMS. Now stuck on having this weird problem that seemingly I can't solve. Have a mixed setup of HW and SW players, HW is two Touch and also have one SQB radio. Problem is that I can't get the the HW players connect to the DietPi LMS. It's completely weird! Was for a while thinking it must be a firewall that causing problems but from what I understand this can't be the case since the SW players connects with ease. Both Squeezelite and Squeezeplayer, no problemas. HW player no way. Can't for my life figure out what's going on here! After a while I even installed a DietPi VM with LMS but still same problem.

Hmm while writing I get an idea ... Ok just tested connect one Touch with LAN instead of the WiFi and out of the blue I'm able to see and connect to the Linux LMS! Sorry for a bit incoherent order here now in the post ...
Ok so that was good! But still I'm very, very confused what could be the problem?! If it's only one problem that is? A combination of router/player? When I use WiFi on the HW players then there's no problem connecting to my Windows LMS (wired PC). But as said no way it works with Linux LMS. The router is an Asus RT-AC56U with the latest official FW. I'm thinking more and more that it might be the Asus that's causing the problem? I kind of vaguely remembering other occasions with different HW that when having a dual band router sometimes two clients having problem seeing each other. Anyone else had similar problems?

Stereo to dual mono

$

I know that we can set things up so that a player receives the stereo, or left or right signal ... but I have what I assume is an unusual request ... send the L+R to each of the left and right.
I expect that there is an ALSA way of doing it for a device that gives access but could there be an LMS way?

I ask because I have a pair of outdoor speakers that connect via RF to a base station which takes it source from a 3.5mm jack that is plugged into a player (a Joggler running Jive in this case).
The 2 outdoor speakers in the garden are not necessarily within earshot at the same time so having them both play the same stereo->mono signal would probably sound best.

If it helps it could be via a Group player.

I guess I could do it with a stereo to mono jack adapter but a software solution would be great.

You seem to be using a Radio with an outdated firmware….

Setting up a LMS with piCorePlayer (which is using LMS 8.0) and getting the message (SB Radio):
"You seem to be using a Radio with an outdated firmware, not recognizing this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider patching it."

Followed the instructions to install the "Version Comparison Fix", but still getting the message.

——————————

SB Radio and Logitech Media Server 8+

Unfortunately the latest Squeezebox Radio firmware (7.7.3) comes with a bug which prevents it from connecting correctly to Logitech Media Server 8+. It's version string comparison function fails to recognize 8.0.0 as more recent than 7.7.3. While the bug has been fixed years ago, the fixed firmware never got released. Unfortunately we're at this point not able to build a fixed firmware for distribution.

But there's a patch available, which you can easily install on an existing SB Radio:

On the Radio go to Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer, install the Patch Installer. The Radio will re-boot.
Once it's back, go to Settings/Advanced/Patch Installer and install the "Version Comparison Fix".
When done patching all Radios you might need to restart Logitech Media Server to make the warning go away.
Enjoy the music on your SB Radio
