Thanks

iTunes scan misses many tracks

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this but would appreciate some advice.

I'm using SBS/LMS on Ubuntu with a music library mirrored across to my windows/iTunes system. I want to import ratings from iTunes into SBS, but when I scan using the iTunes scanner, only about 2/3 of my tracks are imported, with many scanner error messages like

Code:

Audio::Scan::scan (64) Warning: APE: [Ran out of tag data before number of items was reached]  /srv/share2/music/Joe Jackson/Rain/01 - Invisible Man.mp3
Doing a native scan (unchecking iTunes) SBS can find 28,940 tracks, but using iTunes it can only find 19,669 (all the tracks ARE in iTunes).

All tracks are tagged using Musicbrainz Picard which puts quite a few tags into the tracks, so I'm wondering if not all the tag data is being processed because there's too much of it?

As an example, this is the tag info for the track mentioned in the error message above:

Code:

$ mid3v2 -l /srv/share2/music/Joe\ Jackson/Rain/01\ -\ Invisible\ Man.mp3

LMS scan performance

This thread motivated me to do some performance tests for full scans.

Setup: Linux 3.11, ext4 file system, up-to-date LMS 7.8, existing DBs (library.db 130MB, artwork.db 900MB), ~70k audio tracks, 85% mp3 / 15% flac, ~600GB

Scenario 1: music and DB on the same disk
Name: lmsdisk.jpg
Views: 27
Size: 20.1 KBName: lmscpu.jpg
Views: 25
Size: 24.9 KB
- scan takes 02:38:33
- wiping the existing library DB took ~5 minutes, audio file discovery starts at 19:46
- nearly all of the time, it's IO bound. The only period the CPU is relevant is during the playlist scan (starts at 21:32) and SmartMix track export (starts at 21:35), both of which have lots of DB queries
- even during artwork pre-caching (starts at 21:43), IO remains the bottleneck (one custom pre-caching specification)

Scenario 2: music and DB on different disks
Name: lmsdisk_s.jpg
Views: 25
Size: 25.7 KBName: lmscpu_s.jpg
Views: 25
Size: 21.2 KB
- scan takes 01:16:12
- again, nearly all of the time, it's IO bound

LMS 7.8 should come with support for 5.18. What version are you trying to
run.

I can see all my music on the lh side. I can select a tune and I can see that there is a play icon. I can select that but the icon remains as a play symbol. Is there something else I need to setup?

Lost All Settings - Albums for Artist

$

I have had my server (v7.7.2 - r33893) running for over a year and a half with no problems until recently when the server seemed to loose all of its settings. I have no idea why so I have been trying to set it up again. Everything is OK now apart from one thing:

I used to have only full albums listed under each artist. Now, for each artist I have all the studio albums plus every compilation that features that artist. So for example, if you look at the attached image below, you'll see that for artist "Astrud Gilberto" you can see I have three albums listed: "The Girl From Ipanema", "Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi" and "Versions". However, only the first album is by that artist. The other two are compilations.

How would I stop those compilations being listed as albums by that artist?

Thanks!

Older players and ALAC

Hi,

been a while since I've posted - but now have a question.

I'm thinking about converting my entire flac-library to alac. I know its supported on LMS/Squeezebox. But. All my players are of the previous OS-generation (pre SqueezeOS). They are supported by transcoding, but my question is wether they are 100% supported featurewise etc. I.e. will using alac be 100% the same as using flac (except from the transcoding done in the background)

LMS 7.7.3 and opensuse 12.3 works after installing, but not after reset

I installed LMS 7.7.3 successful under OS12.3, but after reset the daemon is not started for some reason.
After installing, I configured everything, searched for music and tried radio and duet successful. But then, I did the reset...

I think the systemd is controlling the services. Then I start the service manually, but somehow it will be stopped immediately:

Code:

# systemctl status logitechmediaserver.service

Does anybody know why the service is stopped? I am sure that it is not because of the warning with the non-Latin fonts.

Also I found this errors in the server.log:

But the funny thing is, after I have installed the server it was working fine...

LMS appears to be stopping/starting at random - assistance of experts sought please!

Hi there,

As I posted earlier on Logitech's SB forum, we have been having significant problems with our Squeezeboxes (two Duets and a UE Radio with SB firmware); at seemingly random times, the connection dies (turns red on remote/radio; often turns blue on Duet base units). It will often come back up within a minute or so, sometimes a bit longer. Sometimes though the only way I have found to be able to connect the SBs again is to factory reset them.

The problems seem to have only come about since we added the UE Radio to the mix, and went away for the week or so we didn't have the Radio (which was being replaced for other reasons) but came back with a vengeance with the new Radio (which at least now has the SB firmware sticking). EDIT - thought I should add that until the Radio came on the scene, the Duets had been rock-solid for many months (I've found LMS on the ReadyNAS more reliable than when we ran it on a Mac Mini).

The advice I have received thus far has focused on trying to find any problems with my network setup, however I haven't found any issues here (and any changes made haven't solved the problem). I've also done the usual from stopping the server and/or rebooting the NAS (LMS runs on a ReadyNAS Duo 2), to resetting all SBs and re-starting all network components, through to a complete removal and reinstall of LMS (done most recently this morning). The problems unfortunately continue.

This afternoon I took a look at the LMS log, and noticed a problem showing up each time the "problem" occurs, with the frequent "squeezeboxserver_safe stopped" and equivalent "started" lines - I'll post the relevant parts of the log below as I'm hoping someone is able to help me decypher this and hopefully offer some suggestions as to what might be wrong and what I can do to fix it. I thought it may be more appropriate to post on this forum, given the problem appears it could be directly related to LMS.

We are reliant on these SBs for almost all our music - plus the UE Radio is supposed to be our replacement bedroom radio, though with these problems it's not even managing to function as that!

Appreciate any assistance anyone can offer.

Cheers
Jonathan Ibell
