How to update podcasts?

Yeah, that's a bit of a mess... you'd have to edit the list on
mysqueezebox.com. Depending on your player type one or the other is
being used in 7.7.x and earlier... I fixed this odd behaviour in LMS
7.8, if that's an option for you. Otherwise better stick with the
mysb.com hosted list.

LMS 7.9.0 fails to stream any music to Squeezebox Radio

Help!

I was very happy with my LMS and my two Sqeezebox Radios until about one week ago there was an update to the LMS (now running 7.9.0 - 0.58.20141211git1418119409) disabling the playback of all music on both of my two Squeezebox Radios (firmware 7.7.3-r16676). If I disable the LMS I am able to stream mp3 radio stations on both radios. All I get in the log file is:
Code:

Error: Couldn't create command line for wma playback for <file.wma>
Error: Couldn't create command line for mp3 playback for <file.mp3>
Error: Couldn't create command line for flc playback for <file.flac>

The server runs under Fedora 20 on an x86_64 machine and I have checked all the normally reported errors and have libmad, libmpg123, all sox* libraries, ffmpeg installed and in latest version. I have cleared and re-built the whole music library, but no joy. I have cleared the LMS installation and re-installed, but no joy. Yes, I have tried to downgrade the LMS to a previous version (7.9.0-0.54), but it did not solve the problem. All the file are on a NAS, mounted as a cifs directory (Samba), and they all play on the computer with Audacious, so the codecs are there, but mp3 and flac should be handled directly by the radios so I do not see what the codec has to do with it. Probably something stupid.

The only other error I get in the server's log file is related to the settings for file types: Settings | Advanced | File Types
Code:

Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1343) Warning: [19:23:25.5182] Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/HTML/EN/settings/server/filetypes.html line 38.
Slim::Utils::Strings::string (477) Error: missing string ;H€ýR
Slim::Utils::Strings::string (477) Backtrace:

I am really out of ideas about what to do and where to look... any suggestions?

Thanks a million!

The server only runs LMS and a command line podcatcher automated via cron jobs.

Both the Linux server and Squeezeserver access point are on the same network set to static IPs, outside the DHCP range.

Via Webmin, added the user squeezeboxserver to the soleserveruseraccount group.

Set permissions with chmod -R 0777 to the /playlists, /podcasts, and /Music directories

Problem:

I only use the Squeezebox to listen to long-format podcasts while showering. I usually am not at the end of one when I'm finished, so I pause it and turn the Squeezebox off. The next morning, I turn it on, hit play and... nothing. I go to the LMS webpage and see the playlist pane is again Empty.

I thought I had solved this recently by adding a dedicated Playlist folder, along with setting the permissions to the folders as listed above. The marginal success is that the playlist of two podcasts I created yesterday was successfully written as an m3u file and can be re-accessed within the web interface, but the problem remains: the paused position within the file (bookmark, if you will) is not kept and the file begins at the start, rendering it doubly pointless as the server wipes out both the playlist selection (Now Playing) and the bookmarked pause spot. I assume this happens when the rescanning occurs overnight, but this can't be 'as designed', is it?

I'm now forced to remember the position of where I paused the day before, pull up the and re-add the playlist next morning, play the correct file and re-position the file at the spot I have to remember, as the system can't seemingly be bothered to do.

What am I missing here?

LMS - missing albums in Genre list

$

Hi all,

I have been an SB3 user for a very long time. Was using LMS 7.7.5 before a few minutes ago. Was looking through my "Holiday" music and noticed many albums missing from the list. Most are compilations, like holiday albums often are.

I did the obvious - rescan by rebuilding the library. But the albums missing under Genre aren't visible.

I installed 7.9 a few minutes ago and see the new Album Artist list (very nice). But under Genre I still see only a small number of the multi-artist compilations. The albums and songs are clearly tagged with a genre = Holiday. I can edit the Album Artist = Various Artists, rescan, etc. and they still don't show up. From the main list under Album Artist I find them. An example is the album A Very Special Christmas. But under the Genre list, I do not see but a few that are tagged Various Artist for Album Artist.

What is going on?

I was referring to SB's menu. Don't you have a Playlists item there? The
files themselves could be spread across all of your music folder. Some
ripping software would save a playlist with every album ripped.

Why would you think memory was the issue when you say that CPU was maxed
out? It's the CPU. The downsampling of your tracks is hard work, and
your NAS not really powerful enough to do the task.

Can't find dynamic playlists on Squeezebox Radio

Hi
I recently purchased the dynamic playlist plugin. I can access this through My Music on my Squeezebox Boom, but I cannot find it anywhere in the menu on my Radio. To listen to a dynamic playlist I have to set it up on the Boom or Web and then sync and listen on Radio.
What am I missing?

The web server part in LMS is a real resource hog. In 7.9 I implemented
some caching which can help considerably. Browsing to artists or albums
would still be about the same the first time around. But then the full
page is cached on the server and subsequently loaded from the cache (as
long as you don't rescan or shut down LMS). You might give it a try.

> Finally, I was wondering how I could get involved in the development and
> maintenance of the LMS code. I have some Perl experience (been using it

Install 7.9 and use it. Sooner or later you'll hit bugs. Try to fix
them. Seriously: trying to fix some minor issue can get you a long way
to understanding how the LMS source is organized etc.

You might also want to get used to running LMS from the source. This way
you can clone the server code, edit it, fix bugs etc., and then post a
pull request. Plus updating or switching version is really easy and
doesn't require the download of that 120MB package (once you've cloned
the 900MB+ repository ;-)). I'm doing this on my main system, too. I
picked some of the startup scripts and adjusted it to run the code right
out of the repository clone I have (my system is CentOS based - but this
should work for Debian/Raspbian, too).

Transform LMS in simple DSP

After years of service, my faithful W95 LMS server is no longer functioning and I decided to replace it with a NAS (from qnap). The great advantage of W95 was that I could use Inguz to perform full room EQ. This is clearly not possible on an ARM/UNIX NAS.
Following the clever advice of user Robertopisa on the Synology forum http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewto...?f=131&t=69437 I would like to try using sox to run some simple filters for performing basic room EQ.
I tried to search for his userid here in the Slimdevices forum to ask for further help, without success, so I'm addressing the wider community.
What he does with his ¨trick¨ is to apply the sox filters to flac files only, and I understand he then has only one device connected. What I would need is to apply the sox filters to ALL files of any kind (I use AAC lossy and lossless, flac, mp3, rado streams...) played on one device ONLY (an SB3) without any change applied to anything played on my other devices (several Radios, a Touch plus various SqueezePlayers).
Before starting to mess around with the .conf files, I would be grateful to gather suggestions and advice. Should I use a custom.conf file for example? Does an * work in the .conf files for specifying any file type, in the same way as it does for specifying any device?

(Apologies if I will be slow in replying, Xmas is close and family duties will get most of my time next days)

Moving LMS 7.7.5/ReadyNAS-Pro to 7.9/Readynas516

Hi,

I am currently migrating my existing server to new hardware. I would like to run the LMS on the new machine as well. I did install the deb package for 7.9 and the LMS web interface comes up fine.
But how do I migrate all the settings and plugins from the existing 7.7.5 installation? I searched the forum and found the advice to copy the entire prefs folder. This did not work for me as the LMS no longer starts after exchanging the files and I think this would also not copy the installed additional plugins.

What steps do I have to make to successfully migrate verything?

Thanks,
Campus

Playlist format missing Album Artist?

In Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1418894490 @ Sat Dec 20 04:05:07 UTC 2014, on the Web GUI, tracks in the playlist have a title, 'from', the album name, 'by' followed by nothing. I assume the Album Artist is meant to follow the 'by', but is missing. See screenshot.

Having just done a re-install it's possible I have not set something I should have set, but I can't see what. My Title format is

LMS Priority etc

$

Many moons ago I set the LMS priority on ubuntu (now version 14.04) to be around -8 in the performance settings (I assume this is intended to be a 'nice' value). I don't suppose I ever bothered to check if anything changed.

Looking today I notice that squeezeboxserver is still running at priority 20 (nice 0). I tried setting --priority -8 in /etc/defaults/logitechmediaserver, and rebooted. The priority parameter is now included in the startup command line (I checked) but still no change to the running priority. I added groups sudo and adm to user 'squeezeboxserver' and tried again. Still nothing.

Now I don't suppose this matter much, particularly on a dedicated music server, but it is a little odd. Any ideas anyone?

I also begin to wonder if the memory settings on the performance page are having any effect - how would I tell?

Anyone using the Multiple Libraries plug-in?

I am looking for a way to create two separate libraries, one for music and one for audiobooks. Because i couldn't find a way to do this in LMS itseld I have installed the 30 day trial of the Multiple Libraries plugin.
I created my two libraries and ever since then my LMS process is eating between 50 and 70% of my servers CPU and the web interface regularly times out.
Is anyone using this plug-in experiencing the same? Any ideas how to create multiple libraries without this plugin?

Thanks,

Playlists not syncing with iTunes

I am running the latest version of the LMS 7.7.5 and I can't get the playlists to look anything like what I have on iTunes. LMS has some playlists that no longer exist in iTunes and iTunes has playlists that don't show up in LMS. Some of the playlists in LMS only have 4 or 5 tracks when in iTunes they have hundreds. I have tried everything I can think of, deleted everything and re-scanned multiple times. Usually doesn't bother me, but I've got some social occasions where it would be nice to use the Squeezebox rather than plugging in the phone. Help!
