Moving LMS to new hardware

You'll have to set it. But you can pick the folder from the Settings
pages. No Linux skills required.

How to disable MySqueezebox.com connection in LMS 7.9.1

Hello everyone.
The Spotify App was the last reason from me to have MySqueezebox.com connected to LMS.
Now that Spotty runs on LMS, I would like to cut the connection of MySqueezebox to my LMS. I recall that there was an (start)option for LMS to do that - but I forgot the details.
Also, that was on an older LMS version.
Can anyone point me to where / how that is being done on 7.9.1?

TIDAL only streams in MP3 not FLAC

Hi,

My first post on this forum. Sorry if I have missed something trivial but having signed up to a trial "hifi" subscription with Tidal, when accessed from the Logitech Tidal App (V1.2), the track always appears to be in MP3 format. The server web interface (V7.7.2) always indicates streaming at 256k CBR MP3. The same information is also displayed on my Squeezebox Touch i.e. " MP3 (Tidal)".

I havs set the streaming quality to "FLAC or MP3"

I have tried several songs by different artitsts in case this was just a few files on Tidal that were not in lossless format. And the files always show as "hifi" when played through the Tidal PC application.

Any suggestiioins would be welcome.

Does a sox (?) DSP plugin make sense?

I am in the throes of setting up a bit of DSP with ladspa within ALSA on PCP.
What I need is something like a "night mode" compressor.

Achieving this with ALSA is not user-friendly and I hit limitations. Due to the ladpsa chain -and a dmixer I need for other reasons- I end up with PCP players that have lost their equalizer GUI and need a buffer size of at least 325ms to play CD-quality sources.
The compressor chain is rather crude (I don't know how to use a side-chain in ALSA) and that big buffer is not good news for sync: players can be in sync but the audio processing in ALSA somehow not, so it is now possible to get discernable echo and the players will not try to fix it, they sustain it...

So to make sure as little as possible happens in the ALSA layer, I've fixed players to report and use 16/44.1. And now sox kicks in when the occasional DVD-A comes about and this taxes the server, too.
All of this with raspberry amplifier boards that can support natively a ludicrous number of samples sizes and frequencies but are a bit lacking in the mixer department....

Then it hit me: I don't really mind loading the server up to the gills or adding latency as long as further down the road the software players sync and use an ALSA layer as thin as possible.
It looks like sox is ladspa- or maybe lv2-aware, so I am wondering if a DSP plugin in LMS would make sense?

Disappearing search box in web interface

Using Chrome, when I want to enter some text in one of the search-fields in the web interface, I only manage to type a few letters before the field disappears. I can then move the mouse to the field and get the field back again, including the letters, and type a few more letters before the field disappears again.

Is there a way to make the search field more patient? And let me have something like 10 seconds to finish my text?

I am using LMS 7.9.1. I have an album with cover art as a folder.gif file. Now I am pretty sure this used to be visible but now it isn't. Did something change?

Can't update to LMS 7.9.1 - (squeeze svc) insufficient privileges error

Yesterday, as I was preparing to download and install the new Spotty plug in, I tried to upgrade LMS to most current 7.9.1 version. I ended up getting this error message:

"Service logitech media server (squeeze svc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I have tried to reinstall previous LMS versions - including 7.9.0 which was previously running fine - and I get the same error.

I am running my LMS (at least I was yesterday!) on a HP MediaSmart EX485 with Windows Home Server (original). I don't know if this is significant but when trying to install the LMS there is a flash screen which says:

"Waiting for Logitech Media Server to stop."

Interesting because no LMS is currently installed to stop!

I greatly appreciate if somebody can help and point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hello,

Seems my LMS has a new problem and does not seem to run. I tried a new installation on QNAP and when checking status via SSOTS on port 9099, the server is not running. When clicking the start button it tries to restart the server but it fails and the same error is given with different PID#.

Everything was fine for quite some time.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Need help - "play all songs by artist"

I can't figure out what I did wrong here, but I need help with something that's been bugging me all afternoon.

When browsing my music library on my logitech media server on my iMac at home, I'll click on an artist. In this example, let's say it's A.C. Newman, where I have 3 albums by him. Bu then if I click on "play all songs" by that artist, it will play all songs by him, including albums that I have A.C. Newman listed as a composer on a song, but is not is listed as the artist. I'll spell it out in greater detail and I can't figure out what went wrong. It never used to behave this way and I have to figure it's a relatively easy fix.

3 albums listed (All by A.C. Newman)

hit "play all songs"

not only does it play all A.C. Newman songs, but also all the New Pornographers songs that has him listed as a composer....which is frustrating for many reasons.

Please help!!!!!

library scan 'stops unexpectedly'

Hi All;
I have this error since a while - now I would like to find the root cause and fix it:

While scanning my music library, the scan aborts unexpectedly.
It does that regardless, if I do a DB deletion and complete new scan or if I scan only added / new files.

It usually stops during 'DB optimization (1of2)':

Sometimes it stops even already during saving coverart.

I am using LMS7.9.1 on an Intel Atom based Linux system ('Joggler'), but the behavior started already with 7.8 (I think).
In earlier versions it ran w/o error.
I am using very few plugins.

Can anyone point me to what might be wrong?

Media Server not connecting....need to get this sorted urgently....HELP!

Hey all,

I use my Squeezebox to stream music out to my deck for a big family and friends BBQ that we hold every year. Since I bought a streaming receiver a few years back, this is the only time that the Squeezebox gets a run out.

I dug out the gear and connected everything up yesterday. Loaded up the Media Server (connected OK) and did a scan to capture new music. All good so far.

Then I did a check for updated software. I noticed 7.9.1, downloaded and installed it. That's when I started getting problems. The Media Server now simply refuses to connect. So frustrating!!

I've tried closing down then re-installing the software. No luck. I disabled my Windows Firewall. Still not connecting (although I am still running AVG protection).

I'm not terribly technically gifted. I just expect these things to work as they should. I'm going to try to unistall 7.9.1 and reinstall an older version to see if that works for me. I'm not sure what to do next if it doesn't. Our BBQ is on Saturday and I desperately need to get this working. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful!!

I'm running on a PC with Windows 10.

Need some help retrieving a large playlist

I've just had to reinstall my LMS after encountering a few problems (which were solved thanks to user d6jg). Unfortunately that meant that everything returned to default setting including the Playlist limiter (to 500 tracks max).

I have a large playlist that I use for parties (1000 tracks), and I'm having some problems retrieving it. What have I done so far?

  • First, I had a look at the m3u file which is still flagging up 1000 tracks. It seems ok.
  • Next, from the LMS Web Control screen, I reset the Playlist Limit to 0 (i.e. no limit) making sure I hit the Apply button.
  • I then rescanned Playlists only, ensuring that the file path was correct.
  • When I loaded the playlist, its still only showing 500 tracks.
  • I closed down LMS and did a restart of my PC.
  • Checked again, and still just 500.



I'm hoping that I'm just missing something very obvious but I can't quite figure out what. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

upgade to LMS 7.9.1 Problem with SSOTS

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade my LMS for 7.8.1 to 7.9.1 on my Qnap TS 439 Pro II+. I have SSOTS 4.14 installed. I am upgrading via SSOTS.

This is what i am doing:

  • I have downloaded the tarball and stopped the server.
  • i tell SSOTS to upgrade.
  • Give the programme the location and it starts to unpack the tarball.
  • After unpacking it tells me that it is succesfull.
  • Then i get an error: I can't determine what i have unpacked.
  • Then the process stops.


What am i doing wrong?

I have checked the version of SSOTS, but it seems to be the newest version...

Anybody?

"Can't connect to server" =(

After a long time without my stereo and SqueezeBox Classic I now try to get it started again but when I try to connect all I get is "Can't connect to server".

The server is up and running as admin. The router has given the SB the right IP and it is looking for the server on the right IP. I have turned off Comodo Firewall and everything, turned off Windows own firewall. I have updated to the latest version of LMS (7.9). The server is on Windows 10 Home.
Still I cant connect. I am using ethernet since the wireless stopped working a long time ago.

Anyone have an idea what can be wrong?

How does Random Mix actually work?

Hi,
I have another language running so I am talking about the add-on with the dice. I like this add-on a lot.
1. But I don't understand what the selection criteria 'random artists', 'random titles', 'random albums' and 'random years' actually mean. There's no difference between artists and titles when you select randomly. If there were statistically significant differences it would not be a random selection.
2. I see that the selection is not so random, e.g. ticking country will result in 10 tracks of 100 by Johnny Cash but none by T. van Zandt although the latter features more prominently in my collection. How can I optimise this selection?

Playlist and favourite persistence

I really like the Squeezebox and its ease of use. But there is one thing which bothers me and that's how playlist and favourites are handled.
Maybe some of you have other ways of working or there might be a plugin I am not aware of.

Generally what I would like to have:

- Playlists and favourites more or less to be independent of file locations and rescanning.
- To be able to store songs which I listen to a playlist when listening.

What do I mean with independent of file locations and rescanning:

- If I do a full rescan my playlist and favorits are usually gone.
- If I move files to another location it is gone from the playlist.

Generally I think about a construction where songs are added as favorite or playlist as a title/performer together with a hash.
As soon as a rescan is performed the playlist and favorites are kept up to date by adding missing songs based on this hash. Of course if the file is really missing it is marked as not available and the user has
to take some action. Calculating hashes would increase scanning time, but probably a hash on a subset of the file in combination with artist/title/playing time would be sufficient to uniquely identify the file.
Unfortunately I have never done anything with Perl, so I have to rely on others :(

Any suggestions / opinions / similar experiences ?

7.9.1 Scanner Crapping Out on Audiobooks

Since I installed 7.9.1 (and installed Spotty, though I can't see that is relevant) the scanner falls over consistently after failing to scan audiobooks, with a:

Is this just me?

PS. I have the iTunes "let iTunes manage your folders" box ticked, but the audiobooks (correctly identified as such) as mixed in with music under the author's name as artist.
