Failed update deleted LMS

$

I just had a very odd thing happen... I'm running LMS 8 on macOS 10.15.7. Every few days I open the LMS system preference, get prompted to update, click a bunch of things to update, and everything is fine.

Today, the installer gave me the error "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

I just assumed that I'd relaunch LMS and be re-prompted to try the update again, except there was no 'Squeezebox.prefPane' in /Library/PreferencePanes. It was gone, so I restored it from my Time Machine backups, and now it will be busy for the next several hours rescanning everything from scratch.

There's nothing in the server.log file, but there's bunch of stuff in /private/var/log/install.log

Is there any point posting the log file here?

Old Music Centres

Image of these old plugs? If they are typical RCA plugs, answer is yes. A
Raspberry Pi with an add-on audio card like the HiFiBerry DAC (
https://www.hifiberry.com/dacs/) provides RCA output. Use piCorePlayer as
the software on the RPi and you're good to go.

Music files that won’t show up in playlists in LMS

$

Hi everyone. Can anyone offer help/ suggestions for downloaded music files that won’t show up on a playlist in LMS? By that I mean the files seem to play alright, but the titles don’t show up on the playlist. They seem to be ‘hidden’ in the playlist between other tracks/titles.

I have a handful albums downloaded that behave like this and I’m trying to correct them. I’m using LMS 8.0.0 but I’ve seen occasional files like this using any version in the past.

Is this a common problem or easy fix? Can I fix these with a program like mp3tag? I’ve tried removing all of the tags and then adding them all again but no luck.

Random Songs, Albums, Artist, Years. Etc... adds the same album or artis all the time

Hi, today I added some new albums to my library.

And wanted to play Random Songs as I always do, but it only plays one of the albums I added today, it keeps adding the album songs over and over, even Random Albums and Years. If I select Random Artists, it selects different albums from the same artist.

Anybody has an idea of what’s going on? Reboot doesn’t help, it keeps happening.

Tidal - Duplicate, but somewhat unique, albums show up in LMS

$

I've been using LMS to listen to a local FLAC library on my Squeezebox Touch devices for many years. I just subscribed to Tidal, upgraded my LMS to 8.0 (official), and I was able to get the music playing in just a few minutes. Thanks so much to those of you who have contributed your time to make this ecosystem what it is.

Outside of LMS, I'm aware that sometimes the Tidal App itself shows duplicate listings for albums. I understand that this is normal and that they're often different masterings, different issues, or similar.

However, within LMS, I've noticed that many albums have listings that simply do not appear in the Tidal App. For example, Depeche Mode's Black Celebration only appears once in the Tidal App. In LMS, it shows up twice, with unique artwork for each listing. Specifically:

Version 1

http://myserver:9000/plugins/wimp/in....1_depeche.0.0.31&player=00%3A04%3A20%3A23%3A7f%3A7c&sess=

Points to this cover art: http://resources.tidal.com/images/80.../1280x1280.jpg This version of the album seems to be unique to LMS. Its artwork seems to be a noisy and skewed scan. Gapless playback does not work properly on this version.

Version 2

http://myserver:9000/plugins/wimp/in....1_depeche.0.0.32&player=00%3A04%3A20%3A23%3A7f%3A7c&sess=

Point to this cover art: http://resources.tidal.com/images/ff.../1280x1280.jpg As far as I can tell, this version of the album is the one appears in the Tidal app. Its artwork seems to be much cleaner and gapless playback does work properly on it.

When playing, both albums report that they're PCM VBR FLAC.

So, with all of that in mind, does anyone know where all of these extra albums come from?

[Edit: I should have pointed out that I'm only talking about the albums available from Tidal within LMS. I have not integrated the online music collection with my locally stored library.]

Raspberry pi

I have had the LMS running successfully on my laptop for awhile but want it running on a raspberry pi. I have successfully manged to get it running on a zero. I don't want to play music just Internet radio.
I can see it running on my pc by running the ip address of the pi followed by :9000. The issue I have is how do I transfer my favourites which are on the Lms on my pc to my raspberry pi? I am using a squeezebox classic.
Thank you.

LMS 8.0.0 on ReadyNAS Duo V1 - not working

$

Help! New to this stuff, so please be patient. Installed the above OK, running Radiator 4.1.7. When I click the 'Free your music' link in Frontview, the web page will not load - in Firefox it says 'Unable to connect'; in Chrome, just says 'the site refused to connect'. I've opened port 9000 on the firewall (at least I think I have). What am I doing wrong- or is there something else I don't know about (likely)?

The Duo is running 2 x 2tb Barracuda drives which are OK.

Oh, and using LMS via its Control Panel is impossible - every time I start the server it stops again within a few seconds.

Like I say, help!

Player pauses intermittently

Hi

Every now and again a track pauses for no reason - and after a variable number of seconds it starts up again. I'm using Squeezelite-X on Windows mostly with LMS 7.9.3 - 1597753178 @ Sun Aug 23 19:27:27 CEST 2020 on a Pi4.
It's done this before but it's not been convenient at the time to dig around, but this eve it's done it several times. Server.log shows nothing amiss apart from a bunch of these, but not when there is an issue:

[20-11-28 20:36:52.7693] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1255) Warning: [20:36:52.7689] DBIx::Class::ResultSet::update_or_create(): Query returned more than one row. SQL that returns multiple rows is DEPRECATED for ->find and ->single at /usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Schema.pm line 1871

Which logging settings do I need to tweak to show what might be going on (or not)?

Remote access

Morning all. I've now got unlimited mobile data and would like to access my LMS on the go. My server sits on an always-on windows 10 laptop which might hopefully make setup a little easier. I've found this:
https://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.p..._remotely.html
However, it is recommended to use a VPN. Is there a guide out there how to set it up? I've played in the past with VPNs but it was a long time ago; is there a guide anywhere how to set up LMS for remote access? Thanks in advance.

Player for Linux (Manjaro) and Win10

Hi,
I have LMS on a RPi, which plays to other RPi's with MoodeAudio and to my Android 'phone with Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Player - all working great

However, I'd like an app to play through my laptop which has Linux (Manjaro)

I also boot into Win 10 for work, so an app for Windows would be great

A bonus would be if it were the same app on both OS's, but a great app for Linux is more important

Sorry for asking such a basic question, but searching for Linux player on these forums is not easy due to huge number of hits :)

Thanks

It's the Online Music Library Integration plugin. Please disable it, or
Deezer, unless you use one of them, of course.

Album Naming Glitch Related to Online Music Service Integration?

I can confirm there's an issue with multi-disc online albums. We would
have information about the disc number, but the path does not change,
nor is the album ID. I'll have to review that logic.

was wondering about this combination...

Have you ever been able to run LMS at all?

What would "perl5.18 -v" run in a terminal session give you?

Yes, those symptoms would show if LMS wasn't running.

What does your server.log say? (can usually be found in
~/Library/Logs/Squeezebox/server.log).

The Boom is fine. The Radio might cause some warning in the log and
elsewhere, but it should work without modification. You can still take
care of this minor issue once everything's set up.

I'm using a 2GB version, and about 1GB is free all the time. Sure, if
you have hundreds of thousands of tracks, that might be different.

Players don't play ! After upgrading 8.0.1 to 8.1.0 ?

$

Hi all.

My setup is a QNAP TS-230 NAS running LMS 8.1.0 with two players, both based on RPi4/PiCorePlayer connected via USB into a standalone DAC, and control points on PCs and various Android phones/tablets all using the Material skin plugin.

Yesterday this all worked fine. During the evening I added some more music files to the NAS and replaced some existing files with higher res versions. I didn't stop the LMS while I was doing that, maybe I should have, and while I was working on it someone else tried unsuccessfully to listen to some music on one of the players.

Anyway, when I had finished the update I performed a scan for new and updated files and when that had finished I tried the system out. Alas, it no longer functioned properly. The control points can see the players and the LMS and can manipulate the playlists on the players as normal. The players, however, cannot play the files in the playlist. When <play> is selected nothing happens; the progress bar does not advance, suggesting that the playback does not even start.

I have restarted the Squeezelite instances and the RPis but this has had no effect. I have also restarted the LMS, of course, and performed a complete rescan, all to no avail.

System details are as follows:

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.1.0 - 1606896523 @ Wed Dec 2 09:24:10 CET 2020
Operating system: QLMS 2.X (QNAP TurboStation) [Debian 9 stretch] - EN - utf8

Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)

Player Model: SqueezeLite
Player Type: squeezelite
Firmware: v1.9.6-1206-pCP
Player IP Address: 192.168.1.xx
Player MAC Address: dc:a6:32...

The log shows the following from the morning startup to the time I first tried to play some music:

[20-12-02 06:38:04.7606] main::init (388) Starting Logitech Media Server (v8.1.0, 1606829767, Tue Dec 1 16:19:49 CET 2020) perl 5.028002 - aarch64-linux-thread-multi

[20-12-02 10:18:24.9794] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (455) Request failed with error: Bad params!

Subsequent attempts to play music produce nothing at 'Error' level in the logs so these entries probably don't relate to individual play attempts, more to something in the LMS startup,I guess.

I enabled some more verbose logging and captured the following segment of log which was generated when I attempted to play a song in the playlist:

The only thing I notice from this log info is that the player's name is 'piCorePlayer 2' but in the log file it is referenced as 'Squeezebox2'. I don't suppose that's important tho'.

Whoa... I just noticed from the log that yesterday I was running LMS version 8.0.1 and today I'm running 8.1.0, so apparently when I restarted the server after doing the file updates the new version was installed.

I had thought that updating files without stopping the LMS had caused my issue but now I think maybe it is because of the upgrade.

I would be grateful for any help or advice that anyone can offer to get me back up and running pronto.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

I have a problem with my music files on my Synology DS218+ NAS, Version: 8.0.0 - 1605892076 @ Fri Nov 20 18:28:44 CET 2020,

All my music files are shown completely in disorder, some are shown two times.

When I try to play files I get the following error message comes up
[20-12-02 21:32:57.1729] Slim::Formats::loadTagFormatForType (120) Error: Couldn't load module: (cur) : [syntax error at (eval 1468) line 1, at EOF]
and I cannot play any file.

The only thing I have changed was that I added a ripped CD to my files and rescanned my library. Then I got these problems. Does anybody have a clue what is wrong?

What platform are you running your LMS on? We only have binaries for

I have updated my LMS from 8.0.1-0.1.1606059084 to 8.0.1-0.1.1606928904 but after this I get no "Now Playing" information on streams using Jivelite

It seems that the now playing is only broken for streams and Jivelite
Music from my server shows artwork and playing time etc but from streams only get a blank screen with track playing time.
I have tried this with RadioIO, BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer plugins
I have enabled Info logging for the plugins but get no errors

Things are all normal when using SL-X with Material skin or LMS Web using default skin

What logging settings should I try to find the error ?

OS Is Centos8 x64

Thanks

Jeff

Hi :

I am using Squeezebox Touch digital output connected to external DAC in my system.

I found the performance (sound-quality wise) of different LMS versions differ.

Anyone also feels this like me ?

Thank you ! :)
