Hi,
I installed LMS 7.8.0 on my Pogoplug v3 running Debian Squeeze, yesterday. I got everything working fine (at least as much I could test yesterday). I am wondering, though, if and how I could improve the performance of that little server. Especially accessing the web interface could be faster (it takes almost 10s to open the page; subsequent actions are much faster and lag only a little, but they could be faster, too). The hardware specs of the Pogoplug v3 are: 700MHz ARMv6 dual core processor and 128MB RAM. I can't change these obviously, but I'm wondering if there are other tweaks I can apply to improve the overall responsiveness.
The first thin I have in mind is the boot drive. At the moment, Debian and LMS are installed on a 4GB USB flash drive. The flash drive gives 15MB/s read speed and 5MB/s write speed, so there is room for improvement here. I'm thinking about buying a faster 16GB flash drive to max out the transfer rates limited by USB2.0 (~30MB/s). But before buying a new flash drive, I'd like to know if that helps at all. Does anybody have some experience with that? I have a 256MB swap file on the flash drive, so I guess swapping would benefit from a faster drive, too. Are there any recommendations on how large the swap file should be on such a setup?
Are there other tweaks I could apply in ordner to imrpove the responsiveness of LMS? Not that it would be bad: Browsing artitsts/albums and playing music works and seems to be similar to the internal server - it would be nice to have it even faster, but it's ok as it is, too. Browsing the music folder is noticably slower, but I don't need that. Scanning is much faster than on the touch (by factor 3-4), so that's nice. The web interface is quite slow, as I said, so improvement in this area would be nice, if possible without investing in a new server.
Thanks,
Timo
